And what can they do to improve.
IMO
They need a better controller, better online, and better exclusives. Also make their network more secure.

Price- Remove features and shrink die(check)
Difficult architecture- Allow devs more time to get aquainted with the cell(check)
Massive investment in Blu Ray and The Cell - Can't help it now
A delay of a year- Can't change this
Terrible lineup - Release plenty of games that make up for it(Check)
I think these are the main ones.
And what can they do to improve.

1) The controller is fine, there's a reason why it hasn't changed since the Playstation 1.
2) The PSN is evolve overtime, don't forget that XBL has been around since 2002 while the PSN has only been around since November 2006
3) Better exclusives? You're trying to suggest that their other exclusives were mistakes?
The price was their biggest mistake this generation, and their arrogance.
...Controller?.bbkkristianSony can't win! They show off a new controller (remember the boomerang?) at E3 2005, everyone hates it so they change it back and still people complain.

I don't know how they can improve the controller aside from the R2 and L2 Triggers.

This. They better not make the same mistake with the PS4.
They won't, it seems like they've already learned their lesson judging from the price of the Vita. The biggest reason for the insane price was due to the Cell processor, the PS4 may use a newer version (or even multiple cell chips) but since it's already been developed then it shouldn't affect the unit price of the console.
For all we know Sony could just scrap the cell altogether and use "off the shelve" components. Either way I doubt we'll see a price like that ever again.

Oh Arrogance i forgot that one. :)Exclusives were the one thing they really got right. And what can they do to improve.

Price. It was $200 more expensive than its competitor.
EDIT - If the PS3 launched at $400, this whole gen would have been completely different.
And what can they do to improve.
IMO
They need a better controller NO, the Dualshock is why I bought and prefer my PS3 first over my 360,
better online Just give me party chat and I'd be happy, other than that it's the same experience I get with live, with a different interface obviously.,
and better exclusives Sure, the PS3 exclusives are quite awesome IMO, but even better ones would be even more awesome..
Also make their network more secure Definitely.

When they told me to work 2 jobs to get a ps3. That's when they lost. todd2rlmao sony's PR was so bad when the ps3 was launching. I sorta remember that quote.
They only made one mistake. That mistake was Blu-Ray. Because of them including BR, they had to raise the release price to $600. If they had left BR out, they would have sold it for a lot less and would be in the lead this gen in sells, not just games.

they said alot of stupid things and why alotta people went anti sony at that time. I don't remember that quote exactly, but it was around the launch when they tried to respond to the criticism about the ps3's price. Such as saying get another job to consumers. They also had quotes such as "if you can find a ps3 in stores, I'll give you 10000 dollars." When the ps3 wasn't selling out anywhere.am i the only one who remembers the launch troll posts here for the ps3? i remember "PS3 IS A BARGAIN, IT'S LIKE IM STEALING FROM SONY."-because obviously the ps3 sold at a loss. it was just so funny though. system wars in its prime 06-08. Microsoft1234it'll all repeat with different twists same story when the next gen finally kicks off.
I'm pretty certain that even with that really weak launch lineup the PS3 would have beaten the 360 pretty handily had it been say $300-400 at launch, or more or less the same as the 360. After everyone already owned a PS2 if the PS3's launch price had been more reasonable I think they would have dominated the market. The only other thing I think was a problem was their late launch this gen.
THE PRICE. That was the ONLY problem with the ps3 that contributed to Sony's fall from grace. Everything else may factor in, but the soley reason why the ps3 is in last place is because of the price. While the BR drive may be 95% of the reason for the high launch price, I can't really say that they should've left out the BR drive because while game around the ps3's launch window proved to be able to fit on a dvd 9 format with little to no tweeking at all, I highly doubt that todays ps3 exclusives paint the same picture. So while the PSN at that time, was slacking, or the launch line-up was lackluster, or the controller wasn't up to par (to some), the only reason why the ps3 is in last place is because of the PRICE.
While this is evident with the ps3 on paper, the highly sophisticated CPU handles some of the workload, which allows the GPU to perform how "on paper" reports stated that it wasn't suppose to perform.Having a gimped Gpu.
Price.
that's about it.

And I know that. The cell allows the ps3 to perform on par with the 360.
BUT. At first, developers didn't use the cell at all, and the ps3 ended up getting a ton of shoddy ports. If the ps3 had a high end gpu at launch, the ps3 would have no bad ports, and later down the road using the cell and that gpu together would let the ps3 pump out more impressive games than the 360 could.
They couldn't have done that though, because blu-ray was already making the ps3 ultra expensive. If they had the cell, a high end gpu, and blu - ray, it would have killed sony financially.
The high price and launch were the main problems, with very few units (causing a giant demand). Sony also had a habit of making grand promises, not just for PS3 but they did it with PS2 as well.
Its all much better now of course, with an amazing line up, nice $300 price and plenty of units available, but they should have planned the early years better. Of course Blu Ray is nice to have so I'm glad they stuck with it.
