So the 3DS is pretty awesome, and it blows the PSP out of the water in every single way. The question is, assuming Sony continues with the PSP brand (and you know they will), what will the PSP successor have to do to actually have a shot at going against the 3DS? It's pretty obvious that it'll have to have the kind of killer support that the 3DS is getting, but what else? What kind of specs and features do you think it will have to have?
I'd say it has to have two analog sticks and a touch screen at the very least. The rumours peg the PSP to have a four core Cell processor, and I hope that the PSP does NOT have that, though it might still have a GPU/CPU of equivalent power. The reason I say this is because the Cell is known to be notoriously difficlut to program for. Also, I think Sony should make the next PSP a phone, because the way I see it, the PSP brand isn't a strong enough gaming brand to work, and definitely cannot counter the DS brand. Sony should therefore choose to counter the iPhone instead, and make the PSP phone Android based, enabling it to compete properly.
Finally, I'd say Sony should ditch all the useless media functionality and focus on the core of a gaming system: games.
