I'm just wondering if any of you know what the picture quality of the netlfix streaming will be through the xbox360? Will it be High Def quality or DVD quality?neversummer75
WHAT THE? Of course it won't be HD quality.
Seconly, Streaming will have a hard time being as good as DVD quality, but when you look at what can be streamed, it's not really newer movies anyways.
It's just a cool convience you can do from the couch. Also, Labtops and the PS3 can already stream from Netflix, BTW.

Furthermore, I don't have a PS3 nor do I care to get one. I don't want to watch movies on my laptop. I would rather watch them on my 42 inch plasma. Thanks

That's fine. What do I care? I have 2 HDTV's in my house, and have all the system's, it seemed like you lack info.
You can also save these streamed movies from the PC to PS3, but that won't be possible on 360.
Expecting the 360 to magically make small movie Downloads to look amazing, isn't going to happen.
That's like buying those semi upscaled but marketed as "HD movies" on 360 now, and thinking they look good. Youhave better quality in an upscaled DVD player, but the luxury factor is great.
That's what this Streaming Netfix offers, couch luxury not sepremo HD quality.
If you really have a 42 inch Plasma (Join the plasma club, and welcome) then you may want to reconsider, to take advantage of your HDTV.
NETFLIX offers Blu-Ray's in the mail, as part of their service. You don't have to get a PS3, you could get a standalone Blu-Ray player, but right now, your TV is being underused.
It will be the same as Netflix streaming on PC's.. probably a little better due to the 360's hardware scaler chip. That is to say, DVD quality. If you want the High Def quality you need to go with the normal Xbox Live Marketplace movie rentals.WillieBeamish
LOL. You really think those micro sized files are true High Def Quality. You know not of what you speak.
The movie industry needed the SIZE and got it in HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Since HD-DVD is dead, now it's up to Blu-Ray (25-50gigs of space.).
I have a few of those movies, and they are nice for what they are, but not HD quality like they are advertised.

which movies are you talking about? If you are referring to the VC1 compressed 6+GB files on XBL marketplace, they are in 720p and on my 106" 1080p DLP projector, look just as HD as my 1080p HD channels from my quad ATSC digital tuner and my Verizon FiOS HD channels.

They are HD quality though. They are not on par with Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, but they are indeed HD.
to the above; NO ..the ps3 can not stream netflix movies...geez where did you get that from?
I currently stream netflix movies from my pc to my hdtv. The quality is standard definition, some movies look better than others; some look like a dvd rip and others like a vhf tape. But there is a ton of content, there are some awesome odd-ball old movies and its definitely cool that xbox is doing this.

That's what I've noticed, but you are right, there are some fun old movies on there.
As far as the PS3 is concerned, all you have to do is DL a program to your PC, and voila.

There are other ways, even through Netflix, here :

Wow, i stand corrected. Thanks for the info.* my netflix account does not mention that ps3 is a compatible device nor does it mention that special disc that was mentioned in that link.

It may be an advertising thing, I also have another link as well for a completely different solution.

all of the movies(about 12,000 movies and TV shows) are in 480p which is DVD quality, and there are about 3-400 or so blu-ray movies that are streamed in 720p. I stream them to my 360 already through Windows Media Center.
navyguy21
Cool..how is the picture quality if you don't mind me asking.?
the 480p movies are great especially when upscaled to 1080p, and the blu ray movies look even better since they are 720p although you have to have a faster internet speed for the HD moviesnavyguy21
Yeah, DL giant 15+gig files can't be very fast without a good speed.

Yeah, I noticed they seem to be better than standard with some movies I've rented, but he was giving advice "If you want THE High DefINITION QUALITY" calling for "THE" HD experience, but with a one sided answer. It's a step up, but not THE step up.
Streaming Netflix to my TV via my 360 without being dependent on a PC is a really nice convenience. I also like that you'll be able to share with other Gold/Netflix subscribers.
In the end, it's not a deal-breaker by any means, but is a nice bullet point on the 360 list.
