http://kotaku.com/pirates-worried-that-pc-games-are-becoming-too-hard-to-1751434049

I foresee the ultimate doom of PC tbqh. The fact that PC gamers spend so much cash on the rig to the point that they can no longer afford any games will make Denuvo the final nail in the coffin to the PCMR.

PC gamers will also be forced to face the fact that we will no longer have the "piracy excuse" in sales arguements. ITT: >We claim that PC isn't a niche gaming platform despite low game sales, due to the fact that a large number of the PC community is actually just pirating the game, but the population is there. No, seriously, this has been an excuse.

We'll also have to consider that without piracy, no one would be willing to play/try indies. No piracy will lead to no indies being played, which will lead to no indies being released, and considering that PC has no non-indie exclusive, game of the generation, games such as Bloodborne or Uncharted. We'll have no games that we can pretend are good. GG no re.

PC gaming = Doomed

So how are we going to kill this knight and crack his shield fellow herms? We're going to need something heavier than UTorrent this time.

Ignorance is a bliss

PC gaming is still the biggest market. Piracy has nothing to do with it. Piracy will remain here and laughable people ALWAYS generalize it to be torrents.

Like anything, piracy has evolved over the years. Torrents are of the past and new ways to spread files has been started. Denuvo is expensive and that means small companies suffer

I'm in a pirate fest and i know how it works , ppl pirate here because they can't afford buying games due to economy crysis and hell some of them don't even know about the Steam/Origin/Uplay platforms , they just copy and paste the crack file TADA! No way they'd pay 60$ for a videogame, their life depends on THAT 60$! Now they've found another way to get away with it paying like 5$ for a 60$ game , some weird-ass solution that works just fine lol !

And ppl of first-world countries can afford 60$ and they always buy the games ...so ... it's so naive to think that we're gonna see a surge in sales due to games not getting cracked.

Pretty sure I haven't ever bothered to pirate games that are readily available. Good to know you can make sweeping assumptions, mostly tongue in cheek I hope, about the rest of us though.

The people who pirate games probably outnumber the ones who buy them. In Countries like Brazil, Russia and China no one buy a game. You can go to any store and ask for a pirated games for like 1$.

I don't know about Brazil or China, but it's not true about Russia. Copy right laws have been greatly enforced in Russia in the last years - the fines for simple vendors are arround 10-30k USD. For any big organization fines can reach hundreds of thousands of USD. Nobody will risk their business like that anymore. Besides there is no need for piracy in Russia, as Steam has adjusted their pricing according to the region income. Big budget games cost in Russian 10-30 USD at launch. And physical copies for pirated games were around 8 USD per DVD/CD in Russia, not one dollar.

Russian pc pirates were quite advanced and crafty. Most of the time they were completely replicating box and dvd art style of the original games. When the Soviet Union fell, many electronic fabrics were left without clients and contracts, so they adopted and started releasing pirate versions of video games. The funny thing is that their quality was actually identical to the original ones. And as there were no presence of the big western companies in the Russian market back then, they completely occupied the videogame niche. They reached such a level of commitment that they started providing Russian translation and voice overs to their games. Once Microsoft, Sony, and other big companies finally got to the Russian market, these pirate businesses have been legitimized in becoming official distributors for those companies, as the former had no clue about Russian localization and had no Russian voice actors, and people didn't want to buy legitimate version of the games from the Western companies as the fools were selling them completely in English with almost zero customer support. So the Western companies had no choice but start to cooperate with pirates...which was pretty funny.

Russians are huge fans of video games. Basically Russians buy as many games as in the US.

According to Steam stats, the biggest steam downloaders are

North America with its 950.1 Gbps

And Russia, 378.1 Gbps.

Obviously 950.1 Gbps >>> 378.1 Gbps., but considering that the US has 3 times more population than Russia, it leaves us with pretty identical download rates for both regions per capita.

So yeh, the Russia is basically the buyer of legitimate games number 2, right after the US.

With the amount of money games like League of Legends, DotA, Team Fortress 2, and World of Tanks make, you would think we would be over this notion that PC gamers steal all of their games.

Sooooooo... you actually had NO clue that PC games are cheaper than console games of the same title, and even when they start at $60 will drop in price at a far faster rate?

You gotta stop misrepresenting yourself as a PC gamer. If you actually were you'd already know this. And while we're at it, you gotta stop paying $60-70 for your games, then you won't even think of piracy.

Most people pirate because they can not afford it or do not see the value in a particular product. I will fully admit that I used to pirate when I was younger (I bet most people have but don't want to admit it). However, I buy my games now because I can afford it and want to support the developers. So, not all pirates are bad guys.

Some people are just cheap bastards and will pirate anyway. The key is to give people incentive and value so they want to buy your product. Look at a game like The Witcher 3. No DRM and it sells great because it is a quality product and people want to support the developer.

Every game should be always online DRM so publishers get to decide when a game dies on a whim, and they force us to buy their next game.

Well, you can't steal a free game. :)

Seriously, though, piracy seems like it would be ridiculously inconvenient given how often the games I play the most get patched. I used to pirate music, but I don't even do that anymore. I guess that's just the luxury of full time employment.

PC is mostly made up of steam sales so not really sure what the complaint is. They practically give the games away on there for free.

Earn some money and buy the damn things. They're cheaper anyways and eventually steam sales come along, there's literally no reason to pirate them. It's the system you have the least reason for pirating stuff for and buying an expensive rig is not an excuse, you know of the expenses going into it when you start thinking about PC gaming.

The truth is that many people that Pirate PC games are unlikely to buy games in the first place so nothing will change really.

the games are still generally cheaper than they are on consoles anyway thanks to Steam.

What will us PC gamers do now that we will no longer be able to steal our video games?

You´ll have bite one of your testicles and shell out the cash to purchase them.
