What will you do once everything becomes Free 2 Play?

I just saw this article, which makes me think that everything really will become free 2 play, even on consoles.

Now I know what you might be thinking: "Nah there will always be indie studios and smaller, more loyal devs". But this phenomenon might just take over the whole industry in the same way that linear action adventure games have dominated this gen. It's coming, you know it is.

What will you do?

I'll Just suck it up.

I hate F2P but it's not so bad that I need to stop.

Multiplayer is meh.

So, I'll just buy old consoles and games and play those.

i'll wait n see, i'll come to this bridge when it actually happens.

If developers could provide episodic single players much like doom back in the day i might be intrested, if not they can take a hike.Although i dont see this as a feasable model for RPG's really.

Mind you it would work for sports games i think as long as developers could provide updates to the engine every year and improve the game.

Most F2P games tend to be multiplayer. I have enough backlog of singleplayer games on the PC going back a few "generations" which means I can ignore F2P altogether and still have plenty of games to play.

Ill play free games. What will retail outlets do?

There'll always be a market for the traditional model,games at retail still sell great,there's a lot of demand for them...

Despite EA's beliefs,F2P is not a goldmine that brings in instant profit.

uh...I'll play the games and if I want to buy Hats, I'll buy them.

You pay for a Subscription Fee like Playstation Plus and Download Free Games.

Or if it's a Online FPS or TPS, Download and Play!

There might be an AD or Two to Watch and you might be 5-15mins in the match, but you'll play, eventually.

If you like the game and want to look swanky in the game you can go to the In Game Store and buy Multiple Hats and Gear for your Avatar!

Oh yeah and all of this is on a Cloud so you don't have to download anything to do it.

Ok, ok umm, I don't think everything will ever go F2P but if it does, I'll likely find a way to enjoy gaming cause that's just what I do.

Free to play isnt bad. There are good F2P games.

Greedy pricing and poor choices in the game structure are what hurt most F2P games.

The thing about F2P is you don't get a singleplayer experience most of the time.

If it would turn out good, I'd welcome it.

But if it was heavily focused on DLC and hidden fees, then no thanks.

I don't think the traditional retail model is dated yet.

There will always be traditional retail, but I think F2P is going to kill the $60 game. We'll start seeing more $30-$40 focused single player titles.

F2P is proving you can have a 100% uncompromisedexperience without paying a penny. If you decide to pay, you can usually unlock a lot of content much quicker for way less than a full retail game. It's a great system.

There is nothing wrong with throwing down like $20 in a F2P game you enjoy.

F2P is only going to get better. EA is going to fail with their freemiume model as other F2P games will never require you to pay. Once EA fails more developers will embrace F2P and everything will become better because of that.

It just makes me so mad that the majority of free to play games are all pay to win. : (ghidorah45

F2P will kill gaming if not done properly. I use to be a strong advocate for F2P during my MMO days but I realised the problems commonly associated with F2P MMOs. One of the biggest problem is pay to win. It is not uncommon to see players spend more on cash shop items than say someone else who spends $20 a month on subscription fees.

If console games were to adopt the F2P format, I will definitely quit gaming. You know why? Because you they will start charging you $$$ every time you want to progress through the game. e.g: Want to unlock the final boss? Pay $10. Want another save file? Pay another $10. You get the idea.
