What would Console and PC owners think of Cross Platform play?

I am primarily a PC gamer but I have friends who play both PS3 and PC. For multiplatform games, what do you think of cross platform play? I would like to play with these friends on PS3 but I do not own one currently and I would prefer to play with my desired control scheme.

PC gamers would think "**** yeah!!" and console owners would likely be "I am cry", though that really depends on the type of games you're playing.

Depends on which game it is.

That happened twice once on Dreamcast with Quake 3 Arena it was cross platform play with PC.

The 360 also did that before with Shadowrun I'm not sure if it was available for more games yet.

Portal 2 already has that with PS3 and PC. they confirmed co op between the 2 systems on Portal 2

For games like SF4 and Dirt 2 there was no reason not to have cross platform as both players would most likely be using controllers and both were GFWL games.

It be good if say DIRT 3 and Mortal Kombat (if it does get a PC version) have cross platform as both would be balanced.

FPS/TPS games its abit more tricky.

Anything but FPS.... it would be a bloodbath. Though the thought of teaching console only FPS players what M/KB is all about sounds fun. :D

Wish if they would do a cross play between PS3 owners and 360 owners on lets say call of Duty game online. would seriously be epic getting on and own lots of 360 owners online lol. and no mics maybe so it wont be such a mess :P

No, I would hate that, mainly because PC gamers would smite console gamers, and none of us would ever want a console gamer on our team.

Personally, I prefer M/KB to controllers and FPS titles on PC but to all those saying "PC gamers would own" isn't particularly true. Some people just prefer, and are better with controllers. I played Q3A cross platform on my Dreamcast all the time and often won matches against PC players. I would play on my PC and have a harder time. I was just better with the Dreamcast controller at the time.

It depends on the game. For FPS I wouldn't want it, because shooting fish in a barrel is not my idea of fun. fore other types of games, though, like fighting, sports and racing, sure, why not?

It worked great on FFXI until PC users figured out how to bot. Still, that's only a minority of the game's population and it didn't completely ruin the experience. I'd be for it - provided console gamers have an option not to play FPS games cross platform :/

BUT you have some people crying that m/k are 100x better and no chance for gamepads. AND then you have people crying gamepads are just as good. So why not let every platform be fully compatible with both so we can end this crap??

AND NO..PC does not use gamepads correctly that Ive ever seen. For example when I play COD2 on console I can push "B" and that one button will let me crouch,go prone OR stand back up. IF you can configure a gamepad like this for PC...IM ALL FOR IT!!

If ppl wantto cross play FPS or RTS, PC willdefinitely own the consoles.

But if it's Racing or Fighting, then it'll be equal.

If that ever happens, the game will probably have limitations that balances the game out.

It generally depends on the game. Some games need to use third-party controller software and some controls may not translate over (for certain PC exclusives, let's say). However there are some games, multiplats as well that are specifically designed to be used with a controller (Crysis and The Last Remnant as examples).

Us PC gamers would destroy the console players. Microsoft tried this already. They put average PC gamers against really good console gamers and the PC guys won.

Um what? You do realize we have basic functions like kicking and banning. :roll: Obviously, if cross platform gaming was to happen, we'd use the PCs MP system, not consoles lag / hackerfest.

If there was going to be any cross platform play, then it should be console vs. console (a la 360 vs. PS3) as it would make sense since both groups use controllers to play. PC gamers would just obliterate console gamers so that wouldn't make sense to put PC vs. PS3 or PC vs. 360 online.

Hacking and modding are more common in pc gaming. It's easier.vashkey

Not interested. The advantage of PC in RTS and FPS would be too big, foring the gimpage of pc version. Not to mention it would lead to more P2P games and less mods.

The only genre where I can somehow live with it is MMO
