What would happen if Sony decided to charge for PSN

Would cows leave in herds from ps3 multiplayer or would they bite the bullet (whilst eating crow) and lay down the loose change needed to play their vastly 'superior games'? This topic seems to come up every other day and I think all of their principles for the consumer...blah, blah, blah....would give way for them to keep playing online at, lets say, the same price for xboxlive gold. Who would boycott it? I must be crazy....when has sony ever done anything to take away from their consumers gaming experience...oh wait, never mind.

Sony already they said they are going to charge for 'premium' service. However, they also stated, playing online should remain free :)

I don't think most really understand how much money it's costing Sony to give free online. I wonder what they will do if their premium service fails.

They have Core... though I don't know who uses it. They will keep on line play free, but if they didn't.... I would just go back to playing multiplayer games on my PC.

Well from what I've seen of most true PS3 fanboys on here, they would pay whatever price Sony charges, and talk about how much Sony loves them to be giving them great online and allowing them to pay for it.

As far as the average person, that would depend on how much Sony charges. I think Sony will eventually charge for online multi-player. I'm just not sure if they will wait until the PS4 to do it or not.

If they did, I would not be surprised to see many people just buy it anyway, although forums across the internet would be filled with whining PS3 owners (myself included, since I like online co op).

I don't know why 360 owners make it like it would be some sort of ownage if it did happen. Would "HAHA now you have to pay too!!!" really make them feel better?

I take exception to this....

I'm a PS3 fan, hardcore at that.....

But I don't "love" Sony.

They have their ups and downs.

Also I wouldn't pay to play random online games.....thank goodness I don't have to.

Cows would not be owned. Both ps3 and 360 owners would be owned. Now, Microsoft would be competing against another "premium" service, so that just means more tiny features that nobody cares about just to appear to have an edge over competition and this would result in higher fees

I would be fine with it, but it won't stop the idiocy of not shipping systems with blue tooth headsets.. Which pretty much means that til its end the radical majority of people will not have mics.. This makes games like Borderlands awful to play online in random games.sSubZerOo

If giving every idiot a mic on PSN means turning it into the junk fest that plagues XBOX LIVE (cursing, racisim, bad behavior, etc), I'm glad they don't offer them....buy your own.

And if you want to game with people with mics....then game with people with mics.

.. A) you can mute.. B) this is difficult when it seems like every 1 in 30 people even have a mic in games like Borderlands.

I'd pay for an added on premium service, as I use PSN almost exclusively. I don't see how they couldn't benefit from just adding a service with benefits while still having free online for those who don't. Really hoping they actually announce something like that at E3. I doubt Sony would drop the free model entirely as it's one of the main appeals of having a Playstation 3 for online gaming.

Like most people on the internet its always gonna be a gut reaction of fake outrage and the typical ":cry:How could sony do this to us" and :evil:M$ is the devil" crap then for most people who live in the real world it would depend on what they are offering. If its the way it is now and you had to pay then you would see PS3 users running for the hills. But if they added all the stuff they were talking about before then sure i would gladly pay.

But this is sony we are talking about the master of feature snatching. Where if people felt like getting a free PSone game every month they would put a limit on it or take it out entirely cause they would run out of games after only 2 years with the games available now:twisted:
