Sure some of you might have heard the story of that Nintendo was like experimenting with Sony on like making a CD add on on the SNES waaay back in the day. But apparently that didnt work out. So my question is, if the add on did work out, would we be seeing Sony chars like Jak and Daxter, Kratos, and other Sony mascots on a Nintendo platform and Nintendo would dominate the market for a long time? Or would Sony (or some other randomcompany)eventualy make their own console even if the add on did work out?

I think Nintendo would have a mind blowing system on that gen. The Nintendo 64 was great and I really love it but it was a system basically supported by both Rare and Nintendo with Sony out of the picture all those fantastic series that debuted on PS One would have the Nintendo 64 as their home and the Final Fantasy series would have never left Nintendo.

I think Sony still would've made their own console later but maybe not until last gen or this gen.

I heard somewere that the reason the deal fell through was because Sony wanted the rights for the software that was made on that add-on so Nintendo figured Sony would betray them later.

It would've been great Nintendo would probably boost the power of their console because they could. SEGA would still be making consoles I think because the Saturn would've actually competed because Saturn would've been in 2nd Place probably instead of 3rd. Also Microsoft wouldn't of entered the Console race they only entered when Sony sold 100 Million PS1s.

no one will ever know. i would of thought sega and nintendo would have continued to be the big dogs. i doubt microsoft would have bothered joining the gaming market if sony wasn't in it, but i couldn't see sony buying studios etc, just to become a third party nintendo/sega developer. sony are a hardware company, which is why their software often sucks (look at the old pc mp3 software etc) it's only recently they have really started developing good software (in the gaming market at least). they might have continued making hardware for nintendo if the cd was sucessful.

Your confused. Nintendo made gaming popular, Sony made it mature.

But if they would have joined together it would have been a beast!

You still arent taking in consideration how changes would have been done on how Nintendo would have made their consoles if Sony was with them.

i stand corrected. i still don't think they would have put half as much resources into the market as they are doing now.

Before the US crash of '83 Video games were making more money then Movies a day. But in 83 they had a crash that only affected the United States. But after that it took until the PS1 to get back to what they were making before the Crash.

Yeah but it would make it harder for "teh hardcorez" because Nintendo would be "ruining the industry" with even more casual stuff.

It wasn't Sony that left nintendo. It was nintendo that abandonned sony and basically squandered all the resources that sony had already put into it. The problem was that nintendo and sega had elevated gaming into the mainstream like never before but had almost no ability to deliver the sheer numbers of units that a company like sony or panasonic could. The conflict arose because there is no way sony would support nintendo without retaining control over what it created, and nintendo eventually decided they didn't want to become sony's puppet. So, there was no real way that they could ever have really maintained a collaboration. The only way is if nintendo allowed itself to be dominated by sony and essentially become the backbone of sony's 1st party, which I think could have be phenomenal. Still, nintendo made it's best stuff with it's back to the wall so it's possible it could have been sega-fied

They would just run to SEGA because SEGA would still be a contender in the Console race unless SEGA severely messed up before in one Gen. I still think the Saturn would've been successful without Sony in the console race since Sony would be teamed up with Nintendo at the time.

Actually s Nintendo saved video games in NA. The video game crash of 83 caused gaming to almost become extinct. People started to get turned off by video games. Many felt that gaming consoles were just another toy fad. But when the NES came out people started buying games more and more. The market flourished and many deiced to make games again. If that isn't making gaming mainstream IDK what is.

sony did push console sales from 10 of millions into well past the 100 million mark. Total console sales was going up, largely because of nintendo, but sony was the one to supply the market with what it wanted

Each console would be both innovative and powerful, and nations wouldwage warover who gets to release the stellar first party lineup first.
