@hardwenzen: So it's very inbred. Well, I knew that. Good reason then to stop repeating their formula and come up with a new combat system and progression that the players are not used to. How about a world that offers more than only sad gloom, death and try-hard fights? Oh, FromSoftware can't do that because they're not creative anymore.
I hear this from the non fans pretty often, the usual "why don't they change the formula" etc etc. Who said we want the formula to be changed? Those that play these games don't want it changed, the only ones that do want it changed are those that don't play their games. If this was a dumbass company like EA, they would've listened to you, the one that doesn't play their titles, but unfortunately for you, Fromsoft management gets it, and they will keep delivering their GOTY winning formula for as long as there is demand, which ain't dropping anytime soon.
The whole industry is full of lucky go happy guardians of the galaxy kind of vibes (in cinema and gaming), but here you are, bitching about their creative worlds MADE FOR ADULTS, not teenagers on g-fuel.
Here's a game more in line with what you're looking for. You'll get all the goofiness you're looking for, and there's no "last second dodging" either, you can just skillessly spam and win. Please enjoy.
You have never stopped to ask how many of those non-fans you speak of were once fans, but got tired of the formula and of doubling down more on more on the speed, abundant boss stamina and tricky animations, understandably. Not to mention the setting. Again and again with the dreary medieval fantasy about death. I played those games more than most people. Not more than you, but more than most. If Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition had been updated from GFWL to Steam sooner, my recorded hours would be second only to Max Payne 3. Many fans just got bored of the same old shit repeated for fifteen years. Just lazy. Greedy and lazy. It's soooo inbred now.
Funny you say this because the souls genre, and especially Fromsoft souls-likes, are bigger than they ever were, and by such a large margin that its not worth paying attention to those who "outgrew" the genre. Let them behind, crying in a corner about the ifs and buts. Nobody cares.
Fromsoft is a well oiled machine of a developer. They produce E X A C T L Y what their fans want, said fans market their games like crazy with world of mouth, more gamers become fans of the genre, and... and we have Elden Ring, a phenomenon of a video game.
So again, they will never listen to you, you don't play their games. They listen to those who do, we support their products, they create more bangers and literally everyone that could be happy IS happy. If the whole gaming industry was like that, any other entertainment would be in massive trouble.
