I wouldn't like it.  Would make it much easier for Sony to get away with their current tactic of forcing high-end, unnecessary hardware on us at an exorbitant price.  The 360 is an HD, high-powered console without the high-powered price tag and unnecessary doo-dads, and it is handily putting Sony in their place.

It would suck. then we are left with the Wii and PS3 as competitors. Sony wouldnt be forced to ever make Home, or anything creative. In fact Nintendo would have never made the wii, because the GC probably would have gotten more sales without the xbox, probably could have gotten more support to. Microsoft has done lots of good things since they joined.
Made the industry more competitive. Made a console the devs find easy working on(both Xbox and 360 were consoles devs found easy, while PS2 and PS3 many find difficult.) Offered some amazing games in Forza, Project Gothem, Halo, etc. For the people who dont like to PC game, they got us many PC games on a good console, with pretty good controls. Not PC controls but still good. They offered the best console online service. They are now offering competitive PC vs Console shooters. Microsoft has done a lot of good.
Everybody is talking sega, what have they done since the dreamcast. Bad sonic games and overall bad games in general. Microsoft is a much better console maker than Sega.

anyone who says the game industry would be better has no intelligence.
Less competition is worse for the competition, it prevents the need for innovation and competitive innovations.

Because $400 is oh so cheap.  Oh wait, MS also released a $300 version that essentially screws over anybody who buys it and that also screws over devs because the hdd isn't standard. :|

People on here will go nuts with 'ownage' threads. A lot of potentially brilliant games will become vapourware, or be made for the PS3 instead. Console online gaming will be dealt a huge blow. Console reliability will probably be much higher overall. There'll be less competition, which leads to more companies resting on their laurels and putting in less effort to make their games good. I won't have to hear about how Halo is by far the greatest series ever as much. Japan won't care.

There would be a Halo, it just would've come out for the ps2 and would've been just another game in the ps2's massive library.

We wouldnt have to put up with rehashes of a generic shooter and floppage RPG's like Blue Dragon thats for sure. Plus people wouldnt be getting milked of their money for maps for their online games and fees to play the games wouldnt exist.

I really wouldnt care whether games were on Mac OS or Windows, Windows is easier to learn and more convinent but its riddled with problems including poor reliability, suseptible to viruses and hackers, plus Windows as a whole is a resource hog compared to Mac OS. I am not saying Mac OS is perfect but its a far better alternative. If Apple really wanted to start becoming a gaming computer company, then they would be getting Nvidia and ATI to start making more video cards for their platform that are cheaper, plus making their motherboards more compatible with other hardware and having a wider selection of upgrade options on a dekstop instead of being so limited to what hardware can be used. Yes I believe that there should be proprietary hardware which will allow for better performance, however a wider variety of parts should be available to choose from.

Agreed.

The ONLY reason i still use Windows is because i'm an avid pc gamer with an addiction for RTS.  I stupidly upgraded to Vista, which is now eating up 512 mb of ram when only idling, so now SupCom lags like hell even on the smaller levels, because i only have 2gb of pc3200 ram.  It's sad when the older version of an OS are multiple times better for gaming then the latest version.Â
