If you want something that you can use without worrying about whether or not it will work or not you should get a PS3. And the nice thing is you can even get used PS2 games now for usually less than $10.00 just about anywhere that will play very nicely on the console with the latest upscaling feature. And there will be a huge number of new games out within the next few months as well.
If you want something that has a lot of hype and a large library of games that may or may not meet your taste and is on the last year or two if your lucky of it's life span. Then get the 360.
Well I can't really recommend either to you since I don't know what type of games you like. You should try and decide for yourself. Look at the games out for each system and compare.
Look at the games coming out for each system and decide, personally I would go with 360, better games this time around than all other competition imo and its cheeper. Plus its not likely for a 360 to break now adays and their fixing the problem completly soon.
Xbox 360 has a more expansive array of games, and a better online system then the PS3, so with that it mind get a 360 with a warranty (in case it breaks).
360 has better games as of now. but come this holiday season ps3's library will be alot better imo. and not to mention free online and bluray player. and it wont break on u
360 has a larger game catalog. However, there are still graet PS2 games coming out like Odin Sphere and Persona 3. If you're into that kinda thing, go with PS3.
