I like Sony's just because it is original.

x,y,a,b less of a mouth full and easier to see on the screen without taking up as much room if something is like PRESS X HERE, otherwise there really is no point to thisI like Sony's just because it is original.

No it is not a mouth full, The symbols are not on my keyboard?
How are the sony buttons original when they just took the SNES-layout ?
And microsoft pretty much copy-pasted the dreamcast controller.
Not to downplay the quality of either of the controllers I mentioned but if you want to talk originality in controllers, talk nintendo :P
Confuses me as well.I prefer Sony's shapes over MS and Nintendo's letters. Nintendo's and Microsoft's schemes are confusing because the two companies switched the positions of the A and B buttons, as well as the X and Y buttons.

Nintendo always had their buttons layouted like that ever since the SNES era. So it is Microsoft's fault for it being different.I prefer Sony's shapes over MS and Nintendo's letters. Also I like the Nintendo's Layout of Y,X,B,A and Sony's Shapes but it gets confusing because when I play Playstation anything and then play something else it says press X and I'm pressing A usually on Xbox because I know how Nintendo's is layed out and it doesn't really confuse me with that.
Everyone gets a little crazy around E3.Is the gaming world really so boring that we are forced to debate about this? :?

I'm an ABXY fan, especially how it was done on the GC. People like to rag on the X/Y button shape, but I think that was inspired.
I think they should ditch the X button because it is in the wrong spot they should of put a shape like maybe a Hexagon or a Diamond instead of an X only because it is where the A or B is on the other controllers instead of where the X or Y goes.I prefer SONY. It gives one more association to your brain - shape, in addition to color and direction. I have one complaint though - the square and the circle are too similar in color. IMO all the colors should be very distinct from each other.

AB makes sense to me as a is used for Accept and b is used for Back. Daft I know but in my mind it makes sense.

In Japan the circle is okay, and the X is cancel. Which I think is a logical association. I don't know why they switched it around in the West. (and even more confusing is when certain games, like MGS, still use the Japanese layout)
XO doesn't because I think O would be Accept and X is back. But it might be different in Japan. Because X is usually represents Miss in some games. Circle represents that you accomplished it.AB makes sense to me as a is used for Accept and b is used for Back. Daft I know but in my mind it makes sense.

It's no different in Japan. But for some strange reason Sony and most game developers switch these two buttons over here.

I think its because red is bad and blue is good over here.MicroSoft's use of colour in the design of the Xbox/360 controller makes it the most intuitive. Symbolically, green means good/agree and red means bad/disagree regardless of culture as far as I know. Same with O/X and A/B, but a bit less obvious. That, and the idea of pressing the bottom-most face button on a controller to advance through menus has been burned into everyone-I-know-in North-America's head since the SNES days, not that I know anyone outside of NA. Made playing Virtual Console games and Metal Gear Solid 3 a pain for me. >.>
Playstation layout imo. Mostly because i've used that one for 3 gens now. Even when my friends and I are playing the xbox and someone asks how to do something we say the Playstation control for that button.
Another, "who has more fanboys?" thread.Killer2401I actually knew what the poll results were going to be before this thread was created. :)
Good to see that the new generation of gamers don't know gaming history...
Sonys symbols are a big FU to nintendo, they chose to use those symbols after Nintendo booted them of the SNES-CD. Why they chose it? It is the symbols that the magic bowser boss or what he is called throws at you in Super Mario World. So taking the symbols from the most popular franchise and putting them on the gamepad was a big FU.
History is funny is it not? :)
trasherhead
History is irrelevant when we're having a hilarious debate on which controller has the better (by better, I mean more intuitive) layout.
Given the incredible vagueness of such 'theft' (It could've come from anywhere), not to mention that, to my knowledge, Kamek (I just remembered his name) doesn't use an X when he casts a spell, the idea of Sony using the XO system as a '**** you, Nintendo' is laughable. I see it as product differentiation and nothing more.
Interesting idea nonetheless.
who gives a ****!!!!!

Good to see that the new generation of gamers don't know gaming history... trasherheadyou're just figuring that out? :P its true though. i see comments sometimes that are facepalm worthy when it comes to video game history.:P it good though that there are people like us who come in to correct them.
it's all the same, but I'll go with ABXY just because it's easier to type than square circle triangle X
they're both aqually fine. but you know what's annoying? using the ps3 controller, having to press O as your default enter key, then jumping straight onto the 360's control, and having to press A to enter. I almost everytime forget and press B
