Not trying to sound cocky but lets put things in perspective. Right now the majority of you use "it" for these boards. So have all the developers and you probably carry it in your pockets. It's the computer. The computer is clearly superior above all the consoles. It might not rule the sales of games but certain things it does that no console won't do for a very very long time.

When a developer sits down to model, animate, program, or skin, the developer uses a computer. He can't use a Gamecube controller to model. It's just not the way it's done. A custom built PC is still way more easy to maintain and upgrade then a console. Plus there's thousands of free articles and research out there available at the touch of one button.

Sure we're talking about who is going to sell more systems and more games. Frankly the computer has done that in greater quantities then all the consoles put together. So you guys keep fighting over each other. The PC is here to stay. Command and Conquer 3 hits at the end of the month. Welcome back Commander. :D

Yes, but how many people can afford PC gaming? You can save all the "I can build a gamin rig for 600 bucks that will run HL2 with 1600x1400 4xAA at 30fps," because you really can't. Not at least one that will play games at acceptable conditions for the next 5 years. Plus while building a PC isn't that hard, most people can't assemble a chair from IKEA let alone a peice of electronics.

Consoles offer a simple, no fuss package, with more than enough power to play games that can compete with PC graphics at least for the majority of a 5 year span. Sure, you might be able to get better frame rates at high resolutions, then download mods after you've finished, but most people don't give a crap about that. They just want it to look good on their TV and have a new big name title to play every month.

All games might be designed on PCs but ultimately consoles are where they make their money. Please, just stop the whole PC is better than console crap. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but consoles are the choice of the vast majority of gamers. The PC hasn't won a generation of gaming for over 20 years, no matter how you look at it. It's just too much work for the average person.

It's worth saying that the PC can never really be the "winner" of a generation of gaming machines.

That said, the PCs required to play games today win in every major aspect except two: Control and Price.

Control is infierior even with Joysticks and Gamepads. While they improve certain games substantially, they make others worse, and many don't even support them. Keyboard and mouse works great for FPS and RTS, which have never been done quite as well on consoles...Until the advents of Halo and the Wii, seperately, for FPS. The PC still controls the RTS genre, but even that is starting to break into the consoles.

The price of modern PCs as high quality gaming machines is ASTOUNDING. Not even the PS3 can compare in terms of high prices, and even then, to keep playing games at top speed in the near future, you need continuos and expensive updates to your rig, not to mention possible problems with viruses, spyware, and malware that consoles simply don't have. The PC is a great gaming machine, but the price is steep enough to scare off all but the hardcore gamers.

And blah.

A quick side note: yes it is definitely more expense to have a gaming computer than a console. But keep in mind that EVERYONE needs a computer, of some type. So a standard non-gaming, internet browsing computer is what, say $500 on average. You spend another $400 for "gaming components" and that takes you up to $900. Any Hermit will tell you if you shop around and spend 15 minutes looking at a "how to build your own computer" guide, $900 is more than enough to make an adequate Gaming rig. If you dont want to build it yourself, you have places like ibuypower and cyberpowerpc that you can get a pre-built gaming computer for well under $1000. Also I think that any fan of FPS, RTS, and MMORPG's will tell you PC games blow consoles out of the water.

Yuck. I have that game for N64, and I can't stand it. None of the units have even a shred of accuracy. Yuri's Revenge however... Now THAT'S a good game.

Well, 1999 wasn't a huge year for unit realism....and it's the N64. An RTS. On the N64.
