I like both games. But I love Gears much, much more.
It's not that I hate Halo, I like the game, the story is interesting but you know, in 2000, every PC gamer drooled over this game, and next thing you know, Microsoft is using it to sell a console...

Whoa, this thread is fundamentally breaking what I know of System Wars. I thought everytime there is a Halo or GeOW thread people coming rushing in to flame it. Not one mention of RFOM or Killzone yet.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say Gears of War actually, everytime it wins another GOTY award people start auto-flaming.DaysAirlines

I don't know why people say Halo is overrated. It's epic, It's monumental. And it changed my opinion of Bungie. I tried to play a couple of those Mac games, but wow, they were ugly. Marathon 2 looked like Blake Stone when you compared it to Quake, which came out within the following year.
Fast forward to 2004 and Halo 2 made Doom 3 look like a pretty tech demo. Halo 2 had the cast, the story, and the soundtrack is nice too. Doom 3 had cool lighting.
I doubt people actually hate those games, many people are jealous of them. That or they think they're overrated. But hate? cmon. I hate Sonic the Hedgehog(360) because it literally sucks. Halo 2 is overrated but hardly crap.

How could a true gamer hate either one (unless you hate guns) Both are excellent games, both have excellent MP, (Gears has a few glitches to work out, but the patch is coming) Both were good SP games (Halo 2 Sp story didnt live up to the hype I personally built it up to, but good regardless and Gears was light on the story but still a blast to play through) If anyone says they hate either game, they are just a blind fanboy who has never gave these games its fair chance. I love both series and have great hopes for Gears 2 (and beyond) and Halo 3 PS- I feel the same with resistance (dont knock it till you try it)

It seems unorginal because it was made 5 years ago. Halo was the one that created many of the FPS cliches that are considered derivative and unoriginal today. In 2001 though, it was fantastic.
