People who like racing sims could say the same thing to you. Why would you spend 200-400 dollars on a boring stealth game that's basically a string of cut scenes? I'm not trying to bash MGS 4 - it's a great game - but everyone has their own personal tastes. Some people like epic stories. Some people just want to drive fast.

You have to be a car guy to enjoy those games. Just like any other genre.

Certain people like racing simulations, you're just not one of them. I personally love them, but I'm also a car enthusiast so it's cool getting to drive cars that I will probably never be able to ever touch virtually on tracks that I will never visit. I find racing to be very fun and rewarding. There's nothing like hitting the apex.

I just couldnt resist posting to this thread. Any car enthusiast - if he/she sees GT5 will just put it in the must have section in his/her career

I adore cars and I can simply say I can't imagine life without GT5. Its doing wonders for any car enthusiast trust me it is a system seller. GT5 graphics make it just a racing game that you Must have.

I agree especialy when there are better racing games like burnout or midnight club. But people love to customize and in those two there is a lot of customize so customize is better to them then uncustomize.nowaimsayin.

because some of us find racing sims fun? just like you may find MGS4 fun another person may not.Its all bout tastes and the saying "one mans trash is anoother man's treasure" springs straight to mind.

Im happy with GT PSP to keep me ticking over till the next good racing game.GT and Forza are both excellent games, best augh is your going bout sales may i remind you GT is one of the highest selling francises of all time in the same league as games ike Halo, and GTA.

Actualy, its not fair to compare GT5 and Forza with Burnout. Those are different genres. You can only say which one you prefer but that doesnt mean the other one is worse. I love Burnout but im also getting GT5 as it will be one hell of a game.

it really is about car porn tho

ever played a racing sim with very few cars or no customization? like the F1 games? it's fun alright, really realistic, and in the case of PC sims way more realistic than Forza or GT ever will be

*but* they don't have the car porn or the customization, you notice that pretty much almost immediately (note: this doesn't include pc sims where you can download hundreds of free cars)

so when i want my racing fix i play rFactor or Dirt 2 or arcadey stuff like trackmania

but when i want my car porn/customization mixed in with a little bit of racing, i play Forza/GT

take out the love of car brands/makes/models/paint jobs/custom hoods/rims/exhaust/engine/brakes/exotic tracks/graphics/etc. and these games aren't that great tbh

Because they enjoy them? I love racing sims with production cars and real-world road courses, and so Forza and GT are pretty much the only game in town. Already preordered the CE of GT5, and my Driving Force GT is hooked up and ready to go.

Maybe for some, but I beg to differ. Even Prologue, which has a short list of cars and tracks compared to other racing sims, I would play for hours. Sometimes it's just nice to come home and a take a Ferrari for a few laps around Fuji Speedway. For me it is about the racing.

I don't like Gran Turismo or Forza, it gets a lot of talk because fanboys keep talking about how much better their game is over the others, but neither are really all that... then again I'm more a fan of arcade racers, so I'm biased in that regards, love games like Motorstorm, WipeOut, Split/Second much more

Due to them liking the Racing genre?

Your opinion is just one in a vast ocean... Many people like racing games -- just look at GT's lifetime sales.

Look, we've already answered your question. Some people like racing sims. They enjoy them. You obviously don't. What else is there to say? It's like asking someone what's so great about their favorite color. It's a preference.

Emma watson is boring.... People like different things. If people want to play games that involve being some sort of elf with special powers let them. If someone wants to race round a famous historic track with an all time favorite car let them. Who is to say what is boring.

Sims are more skill based and people enjoy improving skills as entertainment, where the other racers are more fun based on the things you can do or the story.

Some people are just car dorks and like racing sims. They enjoy adjusting the tires and the gear ratio, much the same as a real mechanic, just without the manual labor or costs. Plus, you get to drive the cars. Its no different than the appeal of number crunching in RPGs or resource planning in RTS games. Some people just like the cerebral aspect of the games.

still about the Ferrari tho, imagine if GT never got any license makes/models and instead had totally made up cars

even if it had super realistic physics, or if the car models were bunk and ugly, it wouldn't be the same

btw i'm not saying realistic racing isn't fun, i'm just saying why games like GT and Forza won out over other racing sims on consoles that never had the kind of car selection or car porn factor, but had equally or greater physics or even fun factor

Why does this thread even exist? TC, you don't like the game, but other people do. I doubt you didn't realize that when you posted this. So basically the only purpose of this thread is to show SW that you don't like sim racers. That's excellent, don't play them. But why didn't you just blog this? No point in creating a thread about it here in SW.

Now if you would claim GT5 >>>>>>>>> Forza, or vice versa, this thread would have its place in SW. As it is now though, not so much.

You can't of given FM2 much chance if you didn't even get a single achievement, Im sure there is one practically given to you for leveling once or something stupidly easy.

I have always despised racing sims... if i want to simulate the feel of driving a car... i get in my car and drive it... try it, its amazingly realistic.

if im driving a car in a video game, i better have jet engines on the thing and be going off impossibly large jumps... and throw some guns on it for good measure.

Yeah, for some reason, Indy is remarkably reticent to let me take my car out for some laps. I'd imagine that other major courses have similar qualms. And even for the ones that do have track days, do you know how expensive that gets? Consumables such as tires, brake pads, and gas and oil start to add up pretty quick for amateur racers.

And even for the ones that do have track days, do you know how expensive that gets? Consumables such as tires, brake pads, and gas and oil start to add up pretty quick for amateur racers.

so just drive leisurely around the block and pretend you are driving faster, you are still getting essentially the same experience... but with better handling and physics.

Its the cars. not really the game. How many people here can go drive a 500k or 100k car irl or have over 400 cars that they can drive when ever they want. I would say very few to none.

lol, someone is butthurt because GT is boring....hyperjayson

I like how you create this thread, offer no real discussion of your own, and constantly reiterate how you think it's boring. We get it.

I'm not a particular fan of racing sims myself, as I'm not much of a car guy, but I can see how people can like them. It seems like you created this thread for no other reason than to troll.

I have always despised racing sims... if i want to simulate the feel of driving a car... i get in my car and drive it... try it, its amazingly realistic.

Nowhere near the same. Laying down consistent laps at Laguna Seca or VIR requires sustained focus and precision. Driving around the block, I can do without setting down my coffee. Besides, it's racing, not just driving. Recognizing the right opportunity and then executing a clean pass is a skill all its own.

I truly dont like cars that much in actual day to day life but i love a good racing sim. I've played Forza to death and i love the customization but something about Gran Turismo makes me want to learn all the aspects of the game. The feel of racing your car in that game is very satisfying if that makes any sense.

would you buy a marathon running simulator then? because it would essentially have all the same benefits over normal running that you just mentioned... plus the major benefit of not getting winded.

How is not getting the exercise a benefit in that context? That said, no, I wouldn't, because the experience of running would be very hard to meaningfully convey in a game without a treadmill. The experience of driving, while not perfect, can be conveyed with a relatively inexpensive wheel/pedal set.

so once kinect comes out and you can get an imperfect but inexpensive running experience, you are gonna be so hyped for that marathon running sim?

honestly im just bustin your balls a bit here, i get people like racing sims even though i will never be able to fathom why. But people also love blowing tons of money on sports cars only to drive them like a soccer mom.

Car obsession will never make sense to me... whether in the digital or real world. Ive never met anyone whos been able to articulate to me the draw of either. But there are probably some things that i like that make zero sense to an observer as well.

Just curious. What games do you like?

i just dont get it, people call GT5 the ps3 system seller (id say it was MGS4), and forza to be its match, (because theyre both racim sims, not sales) and i think theyre really boring to be honest, i bought forza 2 3 months after it was released, i got sick of it i sold it to my friend for a buck, i didn't even get any achievements, and then i got a ps3, after playing the epic MGs4 alot of people on the internet told me to get prologue, im like sure, and i did, and it was boring as hell, just like forza, so the question is, why would people spend 200-400 dollars to buy a console to play a boring racing sim?

Why do you like the food you eat? It's gross and a waste of money.
