[QUOTE="lowe0"] How is not getting the exercise a benefit in that context? That said, no, I wouldn't, because the experience of running would be very hard to meaningfully convey in a game without a treadmill. The experience of driving, while not perfect, can be conveyed with a relatively inexpensive wheel/pedal set.jun_aka_pekto

so once kinect comes out and you can get an imperfect but inexpensive running experience, you are gonna be so hyped for that marathon running sim?

honestly im just bustin your balls a bit here, i get people like racing sims even though i will never be able to fathom why. But people also love blowing tons of money on sports cars only to drive them like a soccer mom.

Car obsession will never make sense to me... whether in the digital or real world. Ive never met anyone whos been able to articulate to me the draw of either. But there are probably some things that i like that make zero sense to an observer as well.

Just curious. What games do you like?

mostly story heavy games or games that have a strong element of strategy to them.

so usually western RPGs, because i get to strategize character development and get a decent story in the process.

i just dont get it, people call GT5 the ps3 system seller (id say it was MGS4), and forza to be its match, (because theyre both racim sims, not sales) and i think theyre really boring to be honest, i bought forza 2 3 months after it was released, i got sick of it i sold it to my friend for a buck, i didn't even get any achievements, and then i got a ps3, after playing the epic MGs4 alot of people on the internet told me to get prologue, im like sure, and i did, and it was boring as hell, just like forza, so the question is, why would people spend 200-400 dollars to buy a console to play a boring racing sim?

hyperjayson

Cool story bro.

Im the absolute opposite of you.

I think arcade racers are just trash...especially NFS. All that BS racing with absolutely no physics gets so dam boring. why t f do you even need to brake in that?

Im a car enthusiast, I like real life cars, driving , rallying and especially F1. Sims just so happen to be the car/racing games of choice especially when it comes to machines that I will never touch in my life :(.

I just couldnt resist posting to this thread. Any car enthusiast - if he/she sees GT5 will just put it in the must have section in his/her career

I adore cars and I can simply say I can't imagine life without GT5. Its doing wonders for any car enthusiast trust me it is a system seller. GT5 graphics make it just a racing game that you Must have.

hyperjayson

not me, i think its boring as hell

Yes, we understood you the first time... Heard of taste? Most people like racing sims because its the closest they will ever get to driving the likes of a race spec GT car. Like the kind that will get trough all of its gears and be going 200 km/h in 3 seconds.

because some of us find racing sims fun? just like you may find MGS4 fun another person may not.Its all bout tastes and the saying "one mans trash is anoother man's treasure" springs straight to mind.

Im happy with GT PSP to keep me ticking over till the next good racing game.GT and Forza are both excellent games, best augh is your going bout sales may i remind you GT is one of the highest selling francises of all time in the same league as games ike Halo, and GTA.

it really is about car porn tho

ever played a racing sim with very few cars or no customization? like the F1 games? it's fun alright, really realistic, and in the case of PC sims way more realistic than Forza or GT ever will be

*but* they don't have the car porn or the customization, you notice that pretty much almost immediately (note: this doesn't include pc sims where you can download hundreds of free cars)

so when i want my racing fix i play rFactor or Dirt 2 or arcadey stuff like trackmania

but when i want my car porn/customization mixed in with a little bit of racing, i play Forza/GT

take out the love of car brands/makes/models/paint jobs/custom hoods/rims/exhaust/engine/brakes/exotic tracks/graphics/etc. and these games aren't that great tbh

When u take out everything from a game obviously it wont be that great anymore tbh..

would you buy a marathon running simulator then? because it would essentially have all the same benefits over normal running that you just mentioned... plus the major benefit of not getting winded.

How much does running down the street cost?

How much does a race modified Nissan GT-R V35 and renting a race track for a day cost?

Car Games can be quite addicting, when i started playing PGR2 on the xbox, i was so hooked that i didn't boot any other game for the 2 weeks after i started it, and i didn't even play online ( i dun remember if there was an online feature or not) and from what i saw GT5 has may be more than triple the content of PGR2. I am not a car games fan but some of them can be fun and addicting to play.

Gran Turismo was the first racing sim to feature RPG elements. Before that, racing sims were bland and boring.

Forza wound't exist today if it weren't for Gran Turismo.

He's thinking about the career mode. It doesen't have any RPG elements, its just a campaign where you start of with little cash and then have to race to get more cash to buy better cars to get more cash to buy better cars etc.... :D

I completely agree with you, the only thing i like about Forza even though i havent played it , is the pure levels of customization, but yea, some people are really into cars such as my friend, so to re-create the feeling of driving a ferrari, with a steering wheel controller, is pure bliss for some.

Put yourself in their shoes. GT5 has 1000 cars to chose from, rendered in extremely high detail, all behaving very accurately to real life. You spend hours learning the perfect racing lines, tuning your favourite car to perfection. You race online in tournaments, in NASCAR, WRC and Gran Turismo tournaments. You compete with other players. You admire the detail put into the cars in photo mode. You enjoy the absolutely insane amount of value in the game with all the tracks/cars/modes. It is amazing. Now I personally prefer arcadey games most of the time. I'm really interested in Motorstorm and NFS: Hot Pursuit. They're arguably more fun, with faster cars, high speed chases, crashes, scrambling for the finish line. But they're completely different animals. It's like comparing fine wine (Gran Turismo) with your favourite beer/spirit. Sure, you might prefer the beer/spirit, but it's not as classy as the wine. I'm looking forward to Twisted Metal the most, but that's not really a racer.

they are....its like building a character lol when you look at it your using what you've earned in races to make your car better much in the same vein of in an FF game using EXP to get better or w/e.

I guess... I'd just call it a persistant campaign or some such fancy name :D I always think RPG as more of the stat building then equipment hoarding.

Jesus_on_fire
Me neither and I don't like the Gran Tourismo series or any racing games but I wouldn't ever pretend like they are a waste of time and money for other people who do. That's why we have choices in the world. IDK why these threads even get started. "people say they like GT and Forza. I hate them so you are wasting time and money but I am not" What?
