Whats the best mario game?

Ohh god this is a hard Franchise to pick the best games out of! But I have the 5 finalist for the poll. This is indeed the biggest franchise in gaming history, so putting together the poll wasn't an easy task. So, its up to you, the voters, to decide. What is the best Mario game?

I think SM64 is the best. I'm more of a 3D platformer fan then 2D, and I don't really like how linear Galaxy is. I prefer Sunshine to Galaxy.

I would easily give it to Galaxy if they had a better hub world, minimal story, higher level of difficulty, less repeat levels (comet levels), and some levels that broke away from the linear format. If Galaxy 2 fixes those problems and Nintendo offers some more surprises I can't think of, then it will easily be my favorite Mario ever. As it stands right now, I'd say it is a tie between Mario World and Galaxy.

Really hard to choose from SMB3, SM64 and Galaxy, but I guess my natural choice would be SMB3 due to its awesomeness and to the fact that I grew up with it.

Super Mario RPG bored me to death. Don't ever let Squarepoo make Mario again, please.

I was never the biggest fan of the game (although I did play through it). The artstyIe of Yoshi's Island was very distinct and pleasing on the eyes. I would like to see it presented in Super Mario Galaxy 2 since they are after all bringing Yoshi into the game.

While it was pretty much the only one I've played, Mario 64 is a very good game. Mario 64 really got me into platformers.

You need an other. My faves are Mario 2 and Super Mario World 2. Mario is at his best when you radically alter the gameplay. I'd also rate Mario Tennis (N64) and Mario Kart above all the games you listed except Super Mario World.Senor_Kami

You're right, it is tough, I like them all so much. I voted for Super Mario World, although I really really like Mario 3 and Galaxy, never played RPG.

At risk of sounding like a 10 year old.... what about "New Super Mario Bros. Wii" ?.... remove nostalgia from the equation and its right up there with SMB 3 & Super Mario World.

Hm I like SM64 the best but I still like most of the main entries. Paper Mario is better than RPG IMO.

I have trouble playing Super Mario 64 nowadays. Now, I am not a graphics whore by any means...but that game is not as pleasing on the eyes as it was back in 1996..-_-

Both SMG and world ar amazig...but I'll go with SMG...I was simply amazed by it.

My favorite is Super Mario RPG, followed by Super Mario World, Galaxy, Yoshi's Island, and Paper Mario.

Super Mario World.The quality and creativity of the level design still amazes me. Every stage was remarkable, with lots of intelligent and challenging situations.

Super mario galaxy is probably my favorite game ever, so that. Second would probably be yoshis island, then paper mario/mario bowsers inside story. Still have to pick up paper mario 2... Is it worth it peoples?DaViD_99

Galaxy is the best, IMO. They are all so well-made, so you are dealing with a series that is phenomenal, regardless of the entry you choose.

Galaxy. But after Galaxy 2 I want them to go back to the old format or 3D mario games. If I got a mario game that had big expansive just... MASSIVE environments like in banjo kazooie nuts and bolts, that has the potential to be the best GAME ever lol.
