That's a tough one. I think Spider-Man was heavily influenced by the Arkham series, but with Insomniac and the wall-crawler's own flair... So, that being said I would probably give the nod to Arkham City.
Batman is my favorite superhero, by far. That being said. this game actually like Spider-Man more and I think it's the most fun i've had in gaming in a long time.

I've always liked Batman, but I got into Spider-Man pretty heavily last year and read a bunch of comics. I really enjoyed them, so i'm kinda torn.
I don't blame you, cos the game actually did really well in terms of portraying both Spider-Man and Peter Parker, which is a change of pace in video games.
Well Metacritic gets thrown around here so much why wouldn't it count now?
Arkham City-96
Arkham Asylum-91
Arkham Knight/Spiderman-87

Lol, Metacritic only gets brought up when it suits an agenda...
Anyway, easily Batman.
@lundy86_4: arkhan series was influenced by Spider-Man.
And if you approach combat in spidey like you do in Arkham, you'll get shitmixed.
They are fundamentally different approaches.
@Nuck81: Being influenced doesn't mean directly copied. Furthermore, I even stipulated Insomniac put their own twist on the formula.
I've played Spider-Man extensively... I believe i'm at 90%+. Need to finish all the crimes in each district, but unlocked all suits and that jazz.
@lundy86_4: yes, and that the basics of the attack, wait for counter symbol, first appeared in spidey 2. Long before arkham.
Spidey shot first
Arkham Asylum is easily best super hero game ever made. City is second best althought its worse than asylum because whole open world structure. Knights is worst of 3.
also Batman>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Spiderman in any media either games or movies.
I’m a big comic book nerd and I like Marvel much better than DC. So that alone is going to make me like Spider Man more. XMen and Spider Man is my jam. It’s a little weird to me how much people like Batman. The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller is a masterpiece though.
I voted for Spiderman because my last impression with Batman Arkham game just wasn't that good with all the Bat Mobile shit.. Now freaking Spiderman swing in NYC was awesome specially it really do look a lot like NYC!
For me it's one of the Arkham games. Probably City, maybe Knight. Followed by Spiderm'n, followed by Asylum, followed by Origins.
If Spider-Man had had good writing like most of the Arkham series had it might have been a contender. As it is the writing in the new Spider-Man is shitty and doesn't even come close to Arkham.
Batman although I'm really enjoying the new Spiderman game but it's making me want a new Arkham game pretty badly.

Most ironic post ever...
I never liked Spiderman/Peter Parker as a character. I like Batman because its dark and gritty. But recently, Batman is becoming overrated. Also, back when I was growing up DC had better cartoon shows. I actually never knew Marvel even existed until I heard about Ironman.
It was hard to play a batman game because I didn't like the combat system. The combat mechanics were pretty weird.
@hrt_rulz01: Well that's because they have had the most consistent high scoring exclusives. The post is ironic because the poster you quoted is doing exactly the same you said: conveniently using MC when it suits him.
Yeah well he's saying that cows always bring up MC, so he might as well now too.
No biggie.
I give it to Batman. Insomniac’s spider-man is a really solid game but overall I think every single Arkham game is better. Spider-man nails it with web-slinging and does a slightly better job in the combat but Arkham games did everything else Waaay better.

Someone hasn't seen the masterpiece known as:
Haven't played Spiderman, but I like Batman way more as a superhero. And I think Spiderman is a lot like the Arkham games, and I played those long ago, which would probably make me think Spiderman is a rather boring, been there done that kind of game.
From what I've seen, the Arkham games just have more variety/better combat and stealth. Not saying Spider-man looks bad; it does look good, just not as good as the Arkham games. Though, perhaps it is better than Arkham Origins.
Why is there never an "other" or "neither" option.
I'm not really a superhero fan, but played better than both last gen.
As a hero I like Batman more. But as a game I enjoyed Spiderman more. Mainly because webslinging through the city was much more fun than gliding in Arkham. The city in Spiderman is much more lively. There are people everywhere on the streets whereas in the Arkham games its just Batman and thugs.
Haven't beaten Spider-Man yet but I'm loving it so far, much to my surprise. So far I actually am enjoying it much more than the Arkham games I've played (Asylum/City). Hands-down, this game has the best open-world traversal ever; I'm actually shocked fast travel exists because you'd have to be out of your mind to even think of using it. Also: Spider-Man absolutely, unquestionably has better combat than any of the Arkham games. Spidey's moveset is really varied, the game rewards creativity and experimentation, you can make really effective use of the environment, it's actually challenging, and it feels fucking incredible. Arkham's combat was novel when Asylum first released in 2009 but it's been done by so many other games by now that it's just nauseatingly simplistic, easy, and boring.
@lundy86_4: then your post is fundamentally wrong, because the only similarities they share is combat which spidey did first.
I loved the Spider-Man game and it's my favorite character, but the Arkham games are better games. Spider-Man needs to improve it's stealth gameplay and ditch the sneaking around as other characters sections and then I would put it on par with Arkham games.
Edit: scratch that, better than. Traversal and combat are better in Spider-Man so I think if they made the previously mentioned improvements it would definitely be better.
I think that last Wolverine game on ps3/360 deserves mentioning. I may not be the best one but it was wolverine done right.
I'm glad Batman is winning, but it's a little to early to compare. People tend to prefer something that came out recently, Spiderman is fresh on their minds.
I don't think any game will ever surpass Batman: Arkham City at the time of it's release. That game did everything perfectly, and brought everything together into an incredible package.
I think Spider-Man was heavily influenced by the Arkham series...
Spiderman is basically Batman: Arkham City with a Spiderman skin.
Other way around. Arkham City was heavily influenced by Spider-Man 2 (PS2/Xbox). If anything, Arkham City was more like Spider-Man 2 with a Batman skin.
