Z for the ps. I swear I had no idea what was going on, just that I kept getting my ass handed to me.astiop
Z is solid, it doesn't help that you play it with the original ps controller, no analog support so you are constantly pressing down hard on the d-pad, the screen scrolls so slow, it just tears your thumbs up.
There's so many hard games on the master system and mega drive from what I remember, like some guy said Maximum carnage was impossible, Mazin saga is impossible, Alex the kid in miracle world was one that I could never finish when I was younger.
Eternal Champions - Genesis (this first game of the 2 series, the battle plan it had was too much of a challenge, the CPU was hard, the game offered no character re-selection at lost and when you lose you get knocked down to fight fighters you had already beaten)
Ridge Racer V - PS2 (try to get 1st place after the qualifying races, I dare many who thought it would be easy and they all failed)
I can't get past chapter 4 in story mode....I've had the game for ...3 years, and I've had most of my friends (and siblings) try to beat it. Its too damn hard
The hardest game I have played has to be Devil May Cry 3, the game was hard as nails. I got really frustrated on some boss fights and got really angry when you die and had to go to the beginning of the level if you didn't have those continue orbs. The most difficult thing about the game was Lvl 18 where you had to fight every boss you fought up to the point but all at once, I almost broke my PS2 on that part. Anyway I kept playing as it was also really entertaining and the combat wsa intense and enjoyable. I have beaten the game a few times and I am so good at DMC3 now that I have played through the hardest difficulty whch is DMD and have got an S ranking on half the levels 8)
DMC3 was one of my favourite action games of last gen due to the on-the-fly weapon change and various fighting styles. I also found the cutscenes to be enjoyable and Dante was just flat out awseome as an arrogant teen.
Good to see somebody remembers Ninja Gainden when it was REALLY hard, not these easier versions we have floating around here today. I think it is funny when I see people list the newer NG games as being hard. I would love to have them play the older ones. They wouldn't be thinking these newer version were so hard after all.
Id go with Contra as hardest game ever played. CoD4 Veteran is pretty close though. I still think the epilogue isnt doable in the time given.
Another hard one was the adventure game "Discworld 2" ... it had some twisted riddles in it ... i thought it was hard :)
Oh yeah, "Star Goose" that was one of the games that i found hardest.

Are you talking about the origenal up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, b, a, start=30 lives Contra? If so, wow, I didn't really find that game hard at all. Fun....yes, but hard....no.

Yes. This game I never beat as well. I watched the video on this site that had the walkthrough, so i finally saw the end.
I beat it.. ut that was only after being so frustrated at the NES version that I downloaded an emulator for it lol.. Save states ftw.

Oh yes...that was a bugger alright. Besides that though, Shinobi for ps2...that made me so frustrated it was rediculous only made it to like 3rd level before i quit.
