What's the most you have personally ever spent on a collectors/special edition?

How often do you purchase collectors editions? Is there a certain price beyond the main games price that you won't even entertain the thought?

I can't remember the last time I personally purchased a special/limited/collector's edition because for the most part they don't really add much. You got the odd one that goes the extra mile and adds something that is truly worth the extra money but I would be remiss to point out that most usually comprise of perhaps some extra artwork, a figurine of sorts, or possibly something like a soundtrack or a behind the scenes extra.

I understand it depends and the question I have posed is highly variable but I thought it would be interesting to hear some of the Gamespot community's thoughts as well as perhaps any responses to the question of...

Mass Effect 3's Collectors Edition for $80 was my first time I have ever spend on a gaming collector and well money worth spend.

Rarely, if ever. Most of the things that come with collectors editions seem to be like, a shitty figurine, an art book, and some DLC or something and I don't really care about any of that shit.

That being said the only one I can think of buying was the Life is Strange special edition a couple of months ago. New the game itself was $20, and the special edition was $28. The main reason I bought it was because I liked the music in the game and the special edition came with the game's soundtrack, and I figured $28 for the game, soundtrack and to support a smaller game was good enough for me.

$100 plus tax for the Odin Sphere PS4 Storybook Edition. It was only $20 more than the standard and I thought it was worth it for the extras.

I don't waste money on toys. Too manly for that. $60 is the max i've ever spent on a video game (which is $92CAD)

The most I spent was $80 each on the Collector Editions for DOA5 and Dragon's Crown. :D Totally worth it for their artbooks.

I think it is about 80 dollars and that was for the collector's edition of Mass Effect 3.

May have grabbed some CE's from garbage bin for cheaper than original retail price

I think 100+ on the GOWIII Pandora's Box...it was worth it...not really the game let me down and the content of that edition was minimal. But the packaging was Amazing.

For me, it was the Uncharted 4 Libertalia CE at $120. That said, I also bought the strategy guide CE for it (half off sale so $20), the Art of book ($25), and ordered a $125 replica of the phurba dagger (incredibly accurate). I also downloaded all the behind the scenes videos from Naughty Dog that they released on YouTube and burned them to a DVD for me to watch. That was basically free though minus the cost of a disc and my time.

I would post a picture of the Uncharted area on my nerd shelf but being on mobile, the site doesn't allow for photos.

Uncharted is my favorite series and I only purchase CE's for it anymore. They just cost so much anymore.

I've never bought any collectors editions. All I need is the game.

I don't buy collectors edition but I spend roughly 1500$ on fifa every year :)

I spent around $100 on one of the Call of Dutys one year. Dumbest thing I've ever done. I absolutely refuse to buy anything other than standard now days. At the rate the prices drop these days, I rarely even buy a game day 1 anymore.

Is that the conversion rate now-a-days? Damn!

Not exactly. But with taxes, this is what i'm paying. Which is beyond ridiculous. They used to be $68...

I remember I spend over $100 for the Metal Gear Rising with the Raiden Blade.

Probably Final Fantasy XV: Ultimate collectors edition, I think it was 280?

However much the Halo 3 legendary edition was.

The last over $100 CE I bought. I buy LE sometimes but I hold off on the CEs

This is technically a collectors edition version of the game. I think I spent around 450? Might have been 500. The condition makes it worth around 600 unrated, probably 800-1000 rated. No the wrapping paper/tape doesn't affect value, it's considered "original" to it's condition.

ON TOPIC: I spent a good chunk of Money on Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 PS4 collector's edition last year. Factoring the Import costs I think it might be the most I have ever spent on one game.

It's either that or Bloodstained which costs roughly the same (about $250.) But since I don't have that game yet I think DOAX3 will take it.

Don't usually pay for these. I think it was probably GTA IV which came with a bag and a lock box. I still use the bag to keep books in.

The good old games of PC you used to get all this stuff included in the box. I was constantly getting cards and posters and cloth maps and stuff.

$250 on that Halo 5 LCE that was 1/2 off a few weeks later. It was the wake up call I needed.

I think most of us who splurge on the various collector's editions feel this way at some point. Like you aludded to, there's usually one example in particular that sticks out in all our minds that makes us feel "duped" inevertedly making us vow to never waste our money on another special/collectors edition again.

I don't buy collector's / special edition because I think game company can make good money out of it if they won't become greedy for their merchandise.

I dont usually get too many collectors editions, but I did order it for Persona 5. It looks really good

Kind of reminds me of that Saints Row 4: Super Dangerous WAD WAD edition that was going for $1,000,000.

It was so ridiculously absurd that I'm not even sure if it was real or not. I think it claimed that they would give you a Lamborghini, a trip to space and a whole host of other "prizes" in addition to plastic surgery LOL.

I spent about $90 on Dot Hack Quarantine. Not a collector's edition or special edition outside of it's limited and coveted status.

$99.99 on the MGSV collector's edition. had to do it since it's the last MGS game. also the venom snake robo arm

1,000,000$ <> Saints Row - that's seems right - the game itself jokes a lot - probably fake - I mean if a guy WOULD go ahead and buy it - they probably would say it's a joke because they won't have anything in value to sell it to him.

As a metal gear solid fan I must say that arm is sweet. Kind of regret not getting it, now that you mention it.

Nothing, really. I wouldn't know what to do with statues, cards, artbooks and whatever other stuff that's clearly made for kids in collectors editions.

I love steelbooks though and frequently pay over the odds for those, most of which come, ironically, from collectors editions and the owner wants all the toys but not the steelbook. Works for me.

The Halo 3 Legendary Edition. I think it was $150.

I don´t buy CE´s very often and I never get the really expensive ones,the most I paid for one was the Starcraft 2 WoL CE wich was around 90€ I think.

@PredatorRules: Just for fun I looked up if that Saints row 4: $1,000,000 edition was real let alone if anyone actually shelled out the cash for it. I couldn't find anything "officially" denying its legitimacy but I did hear some of the developers describing it as being fake and just a joke.

I wonder if someone actually called them on it with the money at the ready lol.

Either Dead Space 2(came with the Plasma cutter replica, put batteries in it and it has light that turns on) it was maybe 100$(cdn) and Fallout 3, which is probably my favorite CE edition of all ..that might have been around 150$ that I paid, it came with the lunchbox and also I just remembered the Skyrim huge box CE , that was definitely more than 150$ if I remember correctly, came with the big Dragon statue

Probably the $90 (retail value $100) for the God of War 3 collectors edition. I ended up throwing out the chest. So it was money wasted.

The last collectors edition I brought was for Mass Effect 3. As ME2 collectors edition sold out, and I wanted the extra goodies for ME3. Don't see myself buying another collectors edition, unless it potentially has resale value.

I've spent much more on PCBs but haven't really bought many collectors editions.

Fairly regularly but depends on what all it comes with. I got Doom for around $120 I think it was.

Witcher 2 was, Imo, one of the better CE's as most don't really come with much. Cheap metal tin jewel case and a plastic figure or bust hardly makes for a good CE that fans could really appreciate. I liked the coin that came with TES 4 but would prefer if games would use a cloth map instead of folded paper with all the fold kinks in it. For those priced $150 + they should come with a board game or something to boot.

But in all seriousness you can buy cooler display figures for the price like this for under $100

That's it I think, I really want the RE7 Special edition, but I have other payments first :(
