[QUOTE="spotofun"][QUOTE="KungfuKitten"]

And people want to wipe piracy out so that no person in your country will ever be able to enjoy a game again. Not that it gets them anything, they just do it to ruin your day.

Who is the real criminal here.KungfuKitten

??? Why not give it away for free to everyone?

There's something in between the two extremes.

Almost always true, but it appears your extremes are pay for a product that costs money or pass it out because someone can't afford it and its an affront if they don't get it. If that is it, I wonder how you get to a comfortable in between. You statement makes it sound as if anyone who thinks piracy is wrong is beating on the little man and just want to hurt less fortunate people. Maybe you didn't mean to come across in that manner and I read it wrong. One could ask, if someone can't afford a game then maybe they should be doing something else besides accessing it illegally? Gaming is entertainment, not a necessity. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to do so and even talk about it online, but I don't think others not being as blessed is grounds for throwing out laws and assuming people are just ugly for wanting them upheld. Just a thought. I may be off my rocker here. I am ready for the weekend.

[QUOTE="lightleggy"][QUOTE="KiZZo1"]

The terms "First World," "Second World," and "Third World" countries were used to differentiate between democratic countries, communist countries, and those countries that did not align with democratic or communist countries. The terms have since evolved to refer to levels of development ...

So "third world" is indeed related to developed and developing.

Firebird-5

the UN declares the "world" terms as offensive and thus they go with the development index, which is also more accurate. how many 2nd world countries (current day) do you know of? none, because its either 1st or 3rd, there is no "in between" term that is why the development index is better, venezuela and costa rica are developing countries while countries like nicaragua are undeveloped yet they are all ranked in the "3rd world" scale even though nicaragua's wealth is not even close to half the wealth of venezuela. mexico is also a 3rd world country and its wealthier than most south american countries

lol wat? first world and third world are synonymous with developed and developing, it's just a political correctness thing.

no, if anything the "1st world" and "3rd world" are vulgar terms. the correct terms are developed, developing and undeveloped. and 3rd world fails to make a distinction between developing and undeveloped, so when someone says "3rd world" they can only imagine an extremely poor country while is completly incorrect because there are plenty of economically stable 3rd world countries

[QUOTE="tomarlyn"]I saw someone from Bulgaria or Yugoslavia here say he pirates games on his PC because of a poor economy, so I don't know. I think any and all kinds of piracy is going to be higher in poor countries to be honest.lordreaven
There's your problem, Yugoslavia no longer exists so of course the economy for Yugoslavia is bad :P

You learn something every day :P

This is an interesting topic, I'll share the numbers from my country (Uruguay) which I suppose are pretty much like in most latin american countries. An xbox 360 Slim (4gb) can cost up to $500 (this is always american dollars), $600 if you want it ready to play pirated games. A 360+Kinect bundle costs $750, of course now and then you have to take it to a shop or mod it yourself when MS releases a new security update.

A PS3 costs almost the same as a 360, a bit more, like $650 but you get the 120gb HDD. Piracy for it is not really that popular here, 360 took over just like PS2 did in the past generation. So the PS3 is considered a luxury since it is expensive and you can't buy pirated games in stores, in fact you can't buy official games unless you go to gamestop, if you are rich enough to pay $120 per game, yeah you read well, twice what folks in the US pay. I personally order games from ebay and asked them to send them as dvds, since I end up paying like $70, unless customs find out, which ends up costing me, again, twice the games cost.

PC has always been a the piracy standard here, but the 360 and PS2 back in the day sold a lot because as we all know, there is no hardware upgrade needed to play newer games.

Wii is also popular by the way, stores sell it with a 500gb HDD for you to play as much games as you can store on it, for something like $400 or so.

In other words, gaming with official games is a luxury in the 3rd world, but people still likes to play games so they go the illegal way.

Here where I live people just can't think about giving 60+ euros for a videogame. Everybody pirates games, and there's a lot of stores that sell pirated copies, just because it's free and it's not given much attention by the law.

If everyone bought games, then PES and GTA would be the undisputed kings.

Hi, im from Argentina, very interestin topic. 1 dollar here is around 4,20 pesos. i have all current gen systems. The ps3 (fat 40 gig model) costed me around 500 dollars, and the price is still the same. the WII is aroutn 340 dollars and the xbox 360 (i bougth a slim with an hdd of 250) shares the price of the ps3, the psp and 3ds (i have one of each) cost prices are around the same as the WII. The games are 90 dollars, but you can find them for cheap if the game is old or if you just look in ebay. what im trying to say is that not everyone down here in South America (or other countrys refered as the "3rd world" or however you want to call them) is poor, many peope here have really good incomes but when it comes to buying a game, most of them get the pirate version because they dont find any "sense" in wasting 360 pesos in just a game (although i buy originals). Here there is no Gamestop, similar place is called "cdmarket", here is the adress with the prices (of cours is in spanish), if any of you is interested www.cdmarket.com.ar p.s. sorry for the bad english (have problems with grammar, lol)

[QUOTE="SilverChimera"]Because they have stores that sell pirated CDs and DVDs of games, and more people have PCs than consoles. Iantheone
^This. My dad bought something like 40 DvDs over in the Philippines for $20 or so.

Alot of people do that. I think the fact that games in NZ are so overly priced really gets pirating in NZ a boost. Atleast things are changing, like I saw Dead Space 2 for $35 which is good

costa rica doesnt represent every 3rd world country, but in case you dont know, costa rica has one of the most overpriced electronics market in central america and its also more overpriced than most south america. so if anything, all that is electronic is way cheaper in the rest of america. the console itself is dirty cheap, the original games are expensive as hell thats why people pirate their consoles and buy pirate games for 1 dollar. and 300 US dollars aint crap, is that too much money for you? because thats pretty close to what the xbox costs in the US and its logical to assume that the price would go up so yeah its not a bad price at alllightleggy

A 4gb Xbox costs 199 US, in India itsRs.14,990 which converted comes out to be 300 US dollars, which is TOO much. you can buy PCs for a cheaper price at around RS.10,000. Console market is not cheap here at all including the pirated games which can cost up to a Rs.1000.

Its even worse for the 250gb model.

yeah, third world doesnt distinguishes between developing and undeveloped, so its an innefficient term.
