Whats with all the square enix hate here?

i don't hate them. they're just a shadow of their former selves. i can go back and play the older classics and still enjoy them but their more recent works have been unremarkable. final fantasy 13 was pretty much the last chance i gave them.

Don't hate them. Not as good as they were but they still give out solid solid games.

Final Fantasy XIII sucked ass, got a sequel filled with DLC including the character on the cover and there's a possibility that a 3rd game might come from them when people want them to release something they announced back in 2006. Let's not forget Final Fantasy XIV was a failure too.

Many people still want that FF7 magic (which doesn't exist after the masterpiece that is FF9) , and many others want the tradiontial FF game.

I hadn't realized Square Enix still made games for the HD twins. Handheld wise they've been more than fine since the lighter hardware allows them to use cheaper assets (which I am totally cool with if it gives me Dragon Quests and TWEWY.) Home console wise they've been god awful. They've released like 3 games made in house. Just terrible at putting out product. Instead of finishing FF 13 Versus they rush out XIII-2, prequel after prequel after prequel after remake for Kingdom Hearts. WHITE ENGINE WHITE ENGINE WHITE ENGINE crap lets just license unreal engine 3. I think it might make me happier if they just gave up on home consoles. It would save me the heartache of watching their in house teams F*** it up.

They've made some really nice dev purchases though, but they should fire every mother f-er in the Japanese hd console dev division for wasting 7 years of everyone time. Eidos Montreal could make a better Final Fantasy than SE's team and they could do it in 2 years.

It's cool to hate Final Fantasy because it's popular, both FF13 and its sequel were solid games, not amazing like back in the SNES/PS1 days but still good jrpgs. Most walked into FF13 wanting to hate it I think and didn't bother with the sequel. FF14 was a big mistake but no reason to totally give up on a company that has given us so many fantastic games in the past.SirDigby84

It's cause Square Enix sucks, they have fallen from grace compared to their awesomeness of the last two gens. The article by their executive or w/e about this gen going on for too long even fueled my hatred for them even more since it's coming from a company who still hasn't released FF Versus 13 which has been in development for how long 6 or 7 years?. They keep on giving us this bull crap FF13 and FF13-2 and even announced FF13-3 which will probably be out before Versus.

Lol. Although FFXIII sold 6.5 million worldwide, FFXIII-2 only sold 1.4 million meaning a good 4 million+ didn't care for FFXIII or it's sequel. Furthermore FFXIII only had a metacritic of 82 and userscore meta of 80 which is a pretty average score compared to previous FF metacritic scores.

Probably because instead of making gems like FFT,FF6,Chrono Trigger,Parasite Eve,and Vagrant Story....they keep milking Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.

The game wasn't about Lightning:| , It was about Serah and Noel, which were, wait for it......the main characters of Final Fantasy XIII-2. The first trailers even pointed to this. Plus, if you wanted to play as Lightning and Sazh, play the first one.

That aside, I enjoyed most of the games Square-Enix have released this past gen. Some games were better in terms of gameplay and such than the last couple of gens. Birth by Sleep is still my go to when I'm on long trips as well as Star Ocean: The First Departure. .

Japanese developers are incompetent and full of themselves so it's no surprise that SE has shifted it's focus towards western talent.

I don't hate Square-Enix. They still make some good games every now and then. They certainly aren't as good as Square-soft though.

The problem with Square-Enix is that they have been having poor management and been giving themselves way too many projects to deal with.

1. They didn't design XIII the way people expected (though it's hilarious that pre XIII, X was one of this board's favorite in the series, and largely dropped from the conversation only after people were reminded X is the most similar title to XIII in the lineup).

2. They didn't bring Vs XIII or KH3 (or...whatever) out fast enough, and think any game that's released and they don't care about is directly responsible.

3. FFXIV was a critical disaster that they point to as evidence SE has lost their way, though so few SWarriors cared even mildly enough about its launch (or MMOs in general) that it didn't even get a hype thread. But now EVERYONE acts like they got screwed by it, and have ignored the huge lengths SE has gone to correct its many flaws.

4. They ignore the quality titles released by SE on other (not console or PC) platforms or by SE owned subsidiaries.

Those are the most cited reasons by people who claim to have been "fans" at some point. You add them to the group of SWers that never liked the series to begin with and it's now hip(ster) to hate SE around here.

Square does a very poor job at listening to what Western gamers propose they do to improve their games and instead have developed the double-edged habit of catering to the J-pop crowd (stylistically, both presentation and gameplay). There's only so many times scantily-clad teenagers can save the world before the premise becomes rote (which it did a long, long time ago).

BTW, FFXIII had a great battle system and a few decent characters, but overall it was definitely one of the worst installments the franchise has ever had. Look to FFVII, FFIX, and FFX if you want a top-notch FF game.

1. Because they take great franchises and turn them into mmo's when they don't need to.
2. They make sequels to games across different consoles or handheld making it hard to follow the series (kingdom Hearts)
3. They didn't localize some good games (Type 0)
4. Heavy focus on mobile game development
5. They take too long to develop games
6. They won't stop with lightning
7. The games are just not fun anymore

I don't hate Square Enix....and I like the Final Fantasy series.

Bumped thread from a year and a half ago but I'll respond.

I enjoy their games. Sure, they may not be of the quality that they were past gens, but I did enjoy Final Fantasy XIII, what I played of The World Ends With You, NIER, and most of whatever other titles they released for handheld and console. What I don't like is how their business is operated.

sorry, i have enough real shyt to hate that i can't afford to be squandering it on squeenix.

as far as my personal opinion goes though i am almost completely uninterested in anything they make.

i will probably get kingdom hearts if a true full fledged sequel ever comes out and i will continue to buy the great games from other devs that all they have to do with it is stamping the squeenix logo on the box and publishing it.
