Agreed. Especially, buyers and devs wanting multiplayer games over single player games. they forget that the best and best selling are mostly sinlge player games, if not all.

Also, you are right about no creativity, its all about multiplayer, DLC and graphics. nothing more, nothing less.

but at the end of they day, its we gamers fault. we keep buying all these multiplayer games, purchasing DLC at high prices. ffs, 1.5m XBL users purchased CoD4 map packs $10 each. Infinty Ward made $15m just on maps, which are free on PC. what kind of message are we sending to devs.

what most devs are doing is, after completing a game, they cut part of the content out for DLC. and charge we gamers more for the content, which should have been included in the disc. and all this is because of online. last gen, they will just re-release the game as a 'special edition' at a budget price, kinda like DMC3: SE or NGB.

The one thing that bothers me the most about this gen is companies throwing around money to get exclusives. It's like greed has taken over the gaming industry.

This gen is good.

Probably not as good as last gen. But equal with last last gen imo.

But not better than last last last gen.

Before that i wasn't gaming :(

Alright guys and gals we all have our complaints about this gen so go ahead and jot yours down.

Me:
-Too much emphasis on multiplayer
-Too much emphasis on open ended and open world games
-Not enough action/adventure
-Games are starting to feel like they are all business no creativity
Tiefster

All of THAT along with it being more of the same since last gen...Its practically last gen with a makeover and a fresh coat of paint. Not to mention online being such a big focus. Plus its low on originality in terms of games. A bummer this time around if you ask me but Ive had some fun times so it isnt all bad. I think my gaming will stop next gen though if it keeps up.

Too Many FPSs

People wanting Co-op for every game

Not enough exclusives

Games that lack a good story ( looks at GeoW and NG2 )

Lack of creativity/originality

Man..... the list goes on.

The thing wrong with it is that it's just a continuation of last gen, and not a whole new gen. Same games inspired into the same sequels, with IP's being based off of entirely different game, or just failing in sales and the likes. I also think that there is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much emphasis on online, and multiplayer, and the single-player gets left behind. The single-player is what makes games fun, and some genre's just shouldn't be multiplayer like coughcough.

Too much money in hype and not enough being put into actual game development.

- AI hasn't really evolved since the early 00's
- Gimmicks - whether its HD, Blu-ray, motion control, shaky-cam or playing plastic instruments... it never ends.
- Gritty, post-apocolyptic environments too plentiful.
- Games look too shiny and plastic'ey. The majority of which will most likely age terribly.

Way too many cross platform games these days.

I understand why it is happening; and that it will get more common as time goes on, doesn't mean I have to like it though.

The problem is there is no "Ivory Tower."

During the last generation, the PS2 was by far the biggest seller. It had an unbelievable wealth of AAA's and AA's. The more sales it got, the more it seemed to get - and fast. By the end of its 2nd year it was clear no consle was going to come close to matching its library quality.

This generation it's the opposite. The highest selling console, selling at an even faster pace than the PS2, has the WEAKEST library. THis is the first time it has ever happened. The more sales it gets, the more it seems to be left behind in quality by the other sales "losers." It is like rewarding developers and console manufacturers for a de-emphasis on quality, and that's not where we should be headed, it sets a bad precedent.

That's what you get when games are evaluated by production values instead of how well they do their job.

-needs more emphasis on online multiplayer. any game that doesn't include it is barely worth purchasing unless its released near the holiday season.

thats it.

diped
 No game is really worth purchasing right at release anymore... but come on, where's the experience if you only play games to compete?

'streamlined' design to 'cater for a wider audience'

Which in nearly every instance means design simplification to cater directly to casual gamers, completely sacrificing game design complexity and depth.

What these games make up for in simply bland, uninspiring, run-of-the-mill design, is excessive bloom and pretty visuals, all backed up by massive hype - generated by marketers pulling the strings.

Worst thing is this gen the critics have taken the bait and fallen for it, hook line and sinker.

Makes me question how critical the people judging games really are.
Stuff like the Oblivion reviews really puts it too question.

Whats wrong with open ended or open world games? im really tired of corridor levels like KZ2 or Gears2.MojondeVACA

Open ended and open world games this gen are too empty and generally have a poor main story in the hopes you'll walk around and gawk at the scenery. Oblivion is a perfect example of this, huge world, many different quests, but it's all pretty much empty ad the same.

Exactly.

All these open world games present an illusion of freedom, fact is there really isnt one, you are just doing pre-determined everything, just as the designers intended, no choice whatsoever. Just restrictions after restriction for 'streamlined' gameplay and design.

At least open world games like Mercenaries 2 give some creative freedom to the player, because of the sandbox nature of the game, but the whole search for a completely non-linear experience is still a long way off.

I guess procedurally generated games will change that though. Hopefully.

Beleive it or not Halo was meant to be (after losing the rts design) a procedurally generated, completely open world Guerrilla Warfare shooter - would have been huge revolutionary stuff.
