PS3 hat>>>Xbox360 hat.
kind sir, you have misread the title. maybe your browser cache is in need of cleaning, as several hours ago the title of the system wars forum changed too "HAT WARS 2000!!!1!!!!!andseven!!!1!!". gosh!before i lock this, suspend the thread creator, and dish out point deductions to everybody who replied prior to this post, i want to find out why you guys thought it would be okay to respond to this considering there's a stickied thread telling you not to. It's only a little bit of fun. And I personally don't agree with handing out moderations to those who replied -- it's petty, pointless and above all an abuse of moderative power. By eliminating any confidence users have in their posting habits, you've created a community that's far too wary of itself and therefore no fun to be part of. The new rules are like an invisible force constantly breathing down your neck.

whether people mean to or not, when they reply to a thread they directly contribute to the thread staying alive. this is the system wars forum...not the off topic or hat discussion forum. why should a thread like this be allowed?

I've got to say this is pretty nasty way to handle things. When did this place become such a facist forum?
I'll take my point loss, or whatever.... heil gamespot.

i'm not taking points away from you since you're responding to my post and not the off topic question the thread is asking. why does the punishment matter when you're not supposed to be breaking the rule to begin with?

Because some of the rules are downright ridiculous. I'm amazed using periods or laughing smileys haven't been "outlawed" on this forum yet. God forbid someone make one small post about something OT, and it lasts a few minutes then disappears off the front page in to obscurity. Holy hell, man, I got suspended one time for trying to stick up for the extra moderation this place had, it kept it from becoming a %^@* hole like newsgroups I used to visit, but now its just scary.
Why don't you show a litty compassion and just lock the thread with no suspensions or other bull, get on with it if you are going to stop midway through to quiz people on their horrible transgressions. I think its the least you could do...

we have an off topic forum for a reason. why should off topic threads be allowed here?
there are zero new rules. CaseyWegner
Well, there are certainly rules that have suddenly sprung into action again. For example, talking about masterbation is apparently an offence, despite me actively engaging in conversations about it with a mod. Also, there seems to be an addition of a "fad" topic rule, which I barely ever see enforced. I think that is either negligence on the moderation team's part or simply selective moderating.
whether people mean to or not, when they reply to a thread they directly contribute to the thread staying alive. this is the system wars forum...not the off topic or hat discussion forum. CaseyWegner
Good point, yet you give me an extremely petty (and unrelated) moderation for it? I see nothing about this in the section you penalised me for -- my apparent "disruptive posting."
Disruptive Behavior - Behavior that disrupts the Service for other users, intentional or not, are prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to: messages or topic titles that force browsers to scroll horizontally; large blank or content-free messages; "bumping" multiple older topics (posting in them well after the last post); posting multiple identical or near-identical messages or topics, including "fad" posts or topics; intentionally hard-to-read topic titles or posts (i.e. ALL CAPS, AlTeRnAtE cApS, no spaces, no or excessive punctuation); posting multiple hard-to-read or nonsensical messages in a single or multiple topics; posting large ASCII art (except in social topics specifically calling for it); or post counting (i.e. "First", "100th Post"). Shouting or otherwise creating noise in an active voice channel is considered disruptive behavior.
why should a thread like this be allowed?CaseyWegner
But that's not the issue here. You've still not properly sorted out your ToS system which has resulted in such a mass moderation taking place. I've argued with you before about this, and i'll argue with you again: fix your ToS and tidy up that stickied mess which will in turn make the rules more easily accessible and identifiable, and therefore alert people to the rules more effectively.
I'm getting tired of this crap, with me not knowing what I can and can't do.
I would understand it if it's a highly offensive thread with graphic images/adult material. And those are usually shut down immediately anyways. But with threads like these, I dont know. Technically they are off-topic but in my eyes not as bad or common in occurence, and the occasional light-hearted community laughter might ease some tension and friction between the posters.
If I can make a suggestion, how about we allow one stickied official System Wars community thread? That way, between the "sparring" and heated debates, those of us seeking a temporary relief and light-hearted laugh can simply fall back into the community thread where we can share a few jokes, talk about stuff, post funny cat pics. It's not meant to replace the Off-Topic board, but a place where the System Wars regulars can congregate together and maybe even learn a thing or two. I also feel I dont know much about the posters I see regularly here and probably wont since we cannot discuss anything outside of consoles and games. Just a suggestion, mods. (plus other websites have this and I think one community-type thread might actually lessen the amount of off-topic threads. A sort of outlet)
Why don't you show a litty compassion and just lock the thread with no suspensions or other bull, get on with it if you are going to stop midway through to quiz people on their horrible transgressions. I think its the least you could do...
Corvin
people have been ignoring the rules here too long for me to have much compassion left. we've had to get stricter and stricter because people can't seem to excercise self control.

One...whole...OT...topic... :|
And because this is a different community. I go to the OT topic, I don't get responses from SW visitors...
Just lock it already.

I'd agree with you if were posting in some sort of trolling-filled flame fest or porn suicide... its a topic about hats. OHNOES... maybe you should move on from modding if you don't have any ounce of compassion left for the people you rule over...

highly offensive threads get harsher punishments than this.

how does it hurt anyone? least of all you
no-one is under the impression that this forum is for serious thoughtful discussion. and If someone wants to make a thread to lighten the place up a bit what's the harm? This is not "offensive" or an "account suicide" it is merely a humourous topic that attempts to make light of the usual repetitive topics on here
we have an off topic forum for a reason. why should off topic threads be allowed here?
CaseyWegner
2 reasons
1. this thread is basically a parody of the usual kind of "which is your favourite system" stuff we get on these boards so it isn't entirely irrelevant
2. each and every forum on here has its own disctinct community and there is no harm with posting the occasional innofensive "fun" topic so that this particular community can have a bit of fun. It doesn't harm anyone and isn't indicative of any sort of mass breakdown in the order of things (which makes the point loss even more baffling)

it's considered disruptive because it's keeping a topic that shouldn't be here alive and therefore disrupting normal system wars posting.
the stickied thread has already been cleaned up and there's now additional forum information permanently plastered to the top now.
Pretty much why I thought it would be okay to respond. The other parody threads such as 'waffles or pancakes?' were fine, didn't get locked or anything.1. this thread is basically a parody of the usual kind of "which is your favourite system" stuff we get on these boards so it isn't entirely irrelevant

Then why don't you splice "responding to topics unrelated to that of the board" into your categorisation of so called "disruptive posting"? Either that or you elaborate on the "bumping" part in more detail.
And as for the stickied topics... I count seven at this current point, most of which could easily be amalgamated into one easy to use thread. It's not that hard. Plus your header is awfully vague as far as responding to inappropriate topics -- porn suicides, as entertaining as they were, don't pop up nearly as much as these off-topic ones. You should meet your priorities first instead of your rarities.
This forum has the strangest most strict rules, and yet, look at what we're discussing, video games? I've seen political forums with more relaxed rules that run just fine. They allow the occasional funny pic or joke used. It's not overrun or complete chaos. They have decent and toughtful discussions and still have more relaxed rules.
I really think either the rules could be relaxed a tad or we allow one thread for SW posters to have fun. I mean if it doesnt work out just delete it if it gets out of hand.
Graphic and inappropriate images, profanity, flaming -- I agree, these are wrong. And by and large most of us do follow these rules. But allowing the occasional funny pic or deviating subject in SW is not as harmful as the those things.

system wars :sigh: for some reason there are not too many compelling threads anymore so people just post *Mr. T voice* jibber jabber...I think the Mods do the best they can to keep the shanagins to a minimum...if you don't like the pancakes vs. waffles thread report it with a compelling reason of why to lock it...
I don't agree with suspending everyone who response to a thread made outside a sticky or docking them points well not everyone anyways
This is systems wars forum.PecansAreNuts
why should he be docked? I think the mods in scenario's such as this should use a level of discretion

from Caseys point of view i can understand the he has little patience left given the frequent abuses of TOS on this board. But this board is dirge of Gamespot so it should not be a surprise that we often see the worst facets of the gamespot forums on here. If things are getting out of hand the impetus is on gamespot to assign more moderators to this place to put less pressure on Casey.
and there is NOTHING (i repeat NOTHING) to be gained from punishing those of us who do our best to participate in system wars when we make an honest mistake.
"More than 5 quotes in a post, flaming, trolling and posting in an off-topic, spam, "fad", inappropriate or account suicide thread will result in a moderation, and a possible suspension on your account."
Much better header warning. Took me two minutes.
Thank you and good night.

I think we as a community know by enlarge who the trouble makers and hooligans are...most people on here are fans of a particular system but they are also reasonible...but then there are the blatant fanboys out there who's main purpose it seems is to post stuff they know will annoy the fans of the other systems...and yet I see them make thread after thread after thread...eventually they get modded but then they are just back 3-7 days later and are doing it all over again or just make an alt...
we as a community have to assist the mods in helping regulate the boards fairly...but at the same time there cannot be a zero tolerence policy
ie can we make some sort of flagging system and be able to flag hooligans so if the repeat offend they are suspended but if its a one time offender maybe just a warning. I realize the mods can't know every last person on here so they just have a all or nothing zero tolerence policy but flagging people would be a decent solution

Honestly, I don't see any relation between hats and systems; none of the posts suggest such. In the pancake-waffle thread it was easy to see the system war analogies.
On the plus side, threads like these are refreshing, because a lot of the topics have been done repeatedly for some time.
