With all this talk about AI, I have to say gaming has been years in the future with this technology.

Sure we can recreate the succulent chinese meal australian guy in muppet form, but that seems like childs play compared to the AI we've seen in video games.

What's your favourite AI character in any video game?

Please limit it to AI, not just any NPC character. Thanks.

Mmm, from your signature one would think that it would be Cortana, but well BT is a nice choice, and since GLaDOS is bound to be mentioned i'll go with Sophia from Persona 5 Strikers.

@adsparky: BT or that robot in COD Infinite Warfare immediately popped into my mind. I love shooters, haha. Can't wait to try System Shock 2 remaster.

I own a couple of Persona games now, never knew they included AI, interesting.

Can't think of any. Usually find them too talkative and a bit annoying.

Shodan's cool and all, but it's just a computer turned evil. Seen that a thousand times in media already..

Glados was pretty funny, but wholy shit, please stfu sometime, I'm trying to play a game. After a point I had no idea what she said because I just blacked it out.

Cortana? Cringe.
Claptrap? Please kill me.

Edit: Think there was a bot in KotOr who kept calling people "meatbag". That was pretty funny. Maybe that guy.

Glados as a potato is pretty cool, it brings her down to earth.

Speaking of which, there is this fun mission in Cyberpunk 2077 where you have to get a few taxis back to have run wild.

All of them are AI and all of them have a unique personality and trait. One of them is voiced by the same voice actress as Glados.

Does humanoid or androids like Aigis of Persona 3, 2B of Nier Automata or Detroid: Become Human various androids count? If strictly AI with robotic features tbh I am attached to Ghost from the Destiny games. Played Destiny for a long time and Ghost becomes a companion I am attached to.

@Litchie: "Shodan's cool and all, but it's just a computer turned evil. Seen that a thousand times in media already."

That's true, but the voice actress and effects they put on her are a perfect ballance of creepy, authoritative, emotionally detached, and kinda weirdly sexy. Every time she appeared, I would have had this mixed reaction of "Oh shit, she found me", and yet was totally engrossed listening to her speak.

Oooof, so many!

  • Dog, from Half-Life
  • GlaDOS, from Portal
  • Legion, from Mass Effect
  • Daedalus, from Deus Ex

HK-47, a classic.

If we are counting droids (and why shouldn't we!?), then I have to say BD-1 from The Star Wars: Jedi series. Has more personality through emotes, chirps, woos, and other noises than most droids and characters in Star Wars.

Legion is great as is Edi, but Hk 47 is a tough act to beat so HK gets my vote.

I've played Bioshock numerous times, but never System Shock 2, the game that inspired it.

This reminds me, Bioshock 2 Minerva's Den is also about an AI, hehe

But yeah back to the point. I was following the last couple of years of Nightdive's System Shock remake. I played it on day one and I love it so much. The game is a bit obtuse, it doesn't tell you where to go, or what to do.

But I mean I find the same excitement in Atomfall: I just write down a lot, my general goals. I just try a lot of strategies on my own, see what works and what I find fun. And yeah I find an extremely fun game.

But it is a game that requires you to take your time. It's not a COD campaign you can rush through. But if you allow the game to do its own thing, you can have a ton of fun. A very unique and immersive experience.
