I always enjoyed the racing Codemasters brought to the table; especially the DiRT series.

DiRT Rally looks nice, I might pick it up a few months from now.

To answer your question, my favourite racing series is probably Mario Kart (DS, 7, 8, Double Dash), though Burnout is a close second (Takedown, Legends, Revenge, Paradise). Don't care much for racing sims.

Burnout is probably my favorite, then Mario Kart. I've always loved Dirt games and will play this game at some point.

Mario Kart's my favorite racing franchise, and one of the very few franchises that can still sell me on a new system all by itself. Mario Kart Double Dash, DS, and 8 are among my favorite games of all time.

A very close second for me is Burnout, though that's mostly because of just how incredible Burnout Takedown was. I don't think I have ever enjoyed a single racer as much single player as I did Takedown. Revenge and Legends were really good, too.

Burnout. Sucks we'll never get another one while EA keeps giving that shit franchise NFS chance after chance when it was never good to begin with.

Anything Codemasters. Mainly the DiRT series.

Second to that, Forza Motorsports. I'm not a big fan of Burnout, aside from Takedown, and NFS has been in a downwards spiral for a long time now.

My favourite racing franchise is Trackmania, probably put more time into that series than all other racing series combined.

Dirt Rally is really good though, incredibly brutal and punishing, in ~20 hours I've won 2 stages out of over 100 played but even getting in the top three is immensely satisfying. If you are going for competitive times you are only ever in tenuous control of your car, you need incredible focus to avoid crashing while also listening to and remembering driver callouts about the track ahead. Probably the least relaxing game you'll ever play but damn is it tense and exciting.

Codemasters are veterans of this genre, it's day 1 for me, no questions asked. However, AFAIK this game is coming out on April 5 for XboxOne/PS4.

My favourite racing series atm is the Forza games... but I still haven't played Project Cars.

And yeah, I'm looking forward to DIRT Rally on Xbox One.

Grand Prix Legends is my favourite and possibly my most played racing game of any kind, ever. Really big on Geoff Crammond´s GP series as well.

I´m pretty interested in Dirt Rally,it looks like it might be the best rally simulation since Richard Burns Rally.

Last gen:

  • Motorstorm - mainly for the first Motorstorm and Motorstorm Pacific Rift, something went wrong with their ambition for the series maybe with the handheld game and that awful Apocalypse game, not their making lame DriveClub shit, I really wish they'd make a return to Motorstorm.
  • Dirt - I liked it for Dirt 2 and 3 a great deal, this new upcoming Dirt doesn't interest me much from what I've seen, what Dirt 2/3 did really well was great course design (Dirt 2 especially) while Dirt 3 was loaded with lots of fun online gameplay modes. This new game just seems too sim heavy for me to care.
  • Split/Second: Velocity - by Black Rock Studio, the people who made Pure, both really great games, but Disney owned them and they were awful at promotion, the game was awesome, the publisher should have realized that instead of canning them, at the very least try selling off the IP and the studio but they didn't

There isn't much that I love that's still around in a capacity that I can love it, except for say Mario Kart.

I use to love WipeOut back in PS1 days but something about the later games didn't sit well with me, whether it be the PS2 or PSP games, or even the PS3 release, never did try the Vita game. It's like the graphics improved but not the gameplay. Maybe that was SCE Liverpool's problem, over the years they were way too focused on releasing those stupid Formula One games that they let their talents elsewhere as game-makers really slip.

I really liked Quantum Redshift back on the original Xbox, looked really good as a BC title on Xbox 360 with butter-smooth framerate and updated for HD widescreen support added. It was created behind one of the original minds behind WipeOut, unfortunately the game never sold well and that was the end of that. I found it as a $5 bargain bin gem.

Anyhow, back on Dirt Rally, they need to add Cat n Mouse races again, that shit was soooo fun. Do they have that for Dirt Rally? If they do, that would go a long way to sell me.

Anything by Codemasters is a great racing game, except for DIRT 3.

My most time fav as of now is GRID, but that might change with this new DIRT game.

My favorite racers are outrun 2 and f-zero gx, followed by burnout 3. Still like kart racers like all stars transformed and MK8. Back in the day, diddy kong racing was the best.

Other than kart racers, most recently I liked NFS 2012 Wii U, but that's it. Can't stand sims.

@indzman: I do like Burnout. I still enjoy Project Gotham Racing, Forza and the Rally Sport Challenge games. All grab a copy of Sonic Team Racing Transformed as well. Game is pretty awesome. I wish EA would bring back Road Rash. Those games were so much fun.

Racing games I don't care much about include Wipeout, F-Zero and the new versions of F1 Racing.

I suppose Mario Kart is probably my favorite series since I've enjoyed every game in the series. Burnout 3: Takedown is one of my favorite racing games though.

And maybe to Dirt Rally. I get bored with half or more of the racing sims I've played though I did enjoy a few.

Papyrus racing games....sigh, I miss the racing days of old. This studio was way ahead of it's time. Grand Prix legends is considered one of the best by experts to this day considering when it was made. rFactor, rFactor 2, iRacing, and also stuff like Assetto Corsa, and Stock Car Extreme - they really owe their existence in a lot of ways to trailblazing racing sims like Papyrus' Indy and NASCAR games, and Geoff Crammond's GP games.

Hard to choose one. Most of the early Need for Speed stuff up to Hot Pursuit II and also Most Wanted (Original) probably got the most play time. Grid series seems to get the most play time nowadays. I also played a lot of Richard Burns Rally, Gran Turismo II and F-Zero.

Dirt Rally looks impressive looking forward to it.

As for favourites I don't have one as such but I do enjoy the Forza Horizons, Driveclub(yes it's not shit anymore) and GT although the last couple have been massively disappointing here's hoping 7 redeems the series somewhat.

Loved Burnouts but that was around the era of Burnout2/3
