imo there has never been a really great sonic game. They always talk about this classic era for sonic but those games are trial and error frustrations. Mario was always 10x betterWhen will we get a good one? :?

LOL, that would be so full of win.2D made on Cryengine 3.
Fully destructible, when he spins fast it rips up trees and grass and everything else, just vortex of destruction, it be awesome!
I'm afraid its not going to happen though, await the next awful 3D incarnation.

Meh. Sword =/= turning into a werewolf. Who cares that it really made no sense since a warewolf is a human turning into a wolf. It was EPIC! :P

The classics are nice but after Sonic Adventure....
I really hope Wii owners get something in placement for those if it's HD plat exclusive, like we got Secret Rings instead of Sonic the Disaster (thank god for that). Honestly, there is no doubt in my mind it's NOT going to WiiA few info about the game:
1. It's in 2D
2. Has HD support
3. Will be on XBLA and PSN most likely.
Not much, but beats nothing.

Video games are trial and error to begin with. The whole Sonic franchise is trial and error. I was playing Uncharted 2 yesterday and that's pretty much trial and error too. Trial and error is a poor excuse to bash a game. It simply means you suck if you honestly get frustrated by trial and error.Who cares? Well, for those who do, they are working on that "Project Needlenose" thing which is supposed to be a 2D Sonic game. I just played Sonic 3 the other day and it hurt me to realize that I will never play a Sonic game like that one again. :(NAPK1NSIt hurt you that "the barrel" will never happen again?
I wonder what "fun" gimmick Sonic Team will concoct for Project Needlemouse. Perhaps at night, Sonic will transform into a snail with a sword.

I really want to believe that Sega can revive Sonic. Truthfully, I really do. However, I've been waiting for over a decade for them to fix the formula up and they still haven't delivered. After all, one can only wait for so long before calling it quits.
To get to the point: I'm not getting my hopes up. But I really hope that Sonic Team manages to prove me wrong though.

There is nothing to revive. I mean what the hell was so great about the classics compared to the better installments in the 3D series like for example Adventure 1 and Heroes? I've been a Sonic fan since childhood yet it seems everyone else is blinded by nostalgia and know very little about Sonic games. Sonic may not be a big name anymore but this whole "decade of bad Sonic games" stuff just makes the games sound unbareable. You should just quit now if you feel that way.The question here is when is the next time we want a sonic game?ArisShadowsSonic 2006 > Super Mario Galaxy And I'm being completely serious here.

Ever since they went 3D, the Sonic series has accumulated a lot of unnecessary bulk that detracted from what made Sonic fun back in the 2D era. Here are some of those things: All of Sonic's "cool" friends he has met such as Amy, Silver, that cat thing, etc., stupid gimmicks such as Werehogs, swords, guns, many levels that almost play themselves, among other things.
When I play a Sonic game, I want to be running as fast as I can through all of the loops and downhills without stopping once. I don't want to deal with all of this crap that has been building up over the years. Unleashed was a step in the right direction with the daytime levels, but it didn't fully deliver. I hope you can tell I'm not being blinded by nostalgia.

The big problem is that 3D added too much complexity. When it comes to 3D, speed kills. The human reflexes have trouble coping with things coming at such extremely high speeds and with touchy controls made a requirement by the 3D plane. That's probably why you don't hear of F-Zero anymore and why clones of last gen like Quantum Redshift panned--they became too fast. Sonic is a series that actually benefits from simplicity. And a 2D plane represented the ideal of simplicity (that and a one-button action) since it became a lot easier to move where you want to go, especially at speed and/or in midair (does anyone remember trying to do tricks like multiple enemy bounces to reach floating rings and so on--that kind of thing). If this new Sonic game is essentially 2D in nature (I'll take 3D graphics with 2D controls--the controls are the big thing), then Sonic Team is going back to its roots, back to when their games were actually worth playing.[QUOTE="sonicthemegaman"]

First thing, Amy isn't "cool" or new for that matter. I see your point but, you could of used a better example like say Shadow or Rouge. I don't really see whats so stupid gimmicks that work. After the whole gun phase, ST added "gimmicks" at least felt in place with the installments they were in. The story in Unleashed pretty much explained the reason behind Sonic turning into a Werehog. The levels and combat were far from being the absolute nightmare people say it is. It's really just a Ristar/Double Dragon fusion. How this ruins the game is a mystery. As for Black Knight, the story pretty much tells you why you have a sword. Not to mention is an actual character in the game. If anything, Sonic may not have really needed a sword but, it's not like it destroyed the game. When I play a Sonic game, I play a Sonic game. Period. I know want to run fast but, the old games weren't even like that to begin with. You're asking for more Sonic Rush because that along with Unleashed daytime sections is all about. Sonic is a plat-former. I don't even think nostalgia is what's wrong here. I think you simply don't like Sonic anymore. I mean you said "decade". Adventure 1 and Heroes weren't good either? At this point, I really see no hope for you liking Sonic again.[QUOTE="shoryuken_"][QUOTE="sonicthemegaman"]

I'm sorry but, Sonic being "too hard" or rather "too fast" in 3D is really hard for me to believe. Especially when "speed" is what people claim the series lost in the first place.[QUOTE="boredy-Mcbored"]

Do you want me to quote Yahtzee?I think if Sonic team did something like New Super Mario Bros. Keep the roots of the series intact, the best parts, add some imporved graphics and 3D backgrounds, and add a few new complementary gameplay ideas, you'd have a winner.

Lol i can tell by all these hate sonic these sonic hatersknow absolutly nothing about the current sonic team.
Sonic Team was replaced by a whole new team and that team lead to the 360/PS3 versions of Sonic Unleashed which were the best 3d sonic ever created (regardless of biased scores)
Project Needlemouse is being made by the devs who made 360 unleashed so i have very high hopes because i enjoyed unleashed asmuch as SMG and that is defanatly saying alot.
