When bragging about PC graphics, Why do people always show off irrelevant games?

I mean, at least the games cows hype are AAA. Wenever Hermits talk about graphics, they always talk about games that noone has heard of or cares about.

Oh, its lighting system destroys Uncharted 2, anything on PS3, or even 360. Fantastic, you just proved something that nobody ever disputed. Now tell me what the game scored on Gamerankings ;)

I could never figure out why hermits claim "ownage" using some irrelevant obscure title that noones ever heard of(usually in the 50-70s @ Gamerankings/MetaCritic) or some random crysis mod that has absolutely nothing to do but walk around in an empty map and stare at leaves (in about 4fps at that)

Then they post screenshots of games that have the absolute most abysmal art direction you have ever seen (and sometimes even arent that impressive technically). Usually it is of some off hand title that the average person would have never heard of in their life, and when you go to gamerankings it is usually in the 50s-70s. maybe 80s.

No hermits, I dont care that your modded version of Rome total war has thousands of enemies onscreen (a mod that you will try for absolutely no reason, just to test out your graphics card, and get bored of after 20 minutes, and never touch it again)

Or that Arma 2 has some nice looking cloths, textures etc. It doesnt stop it from being ugly as hell, and being rated 77 @ gamerankings.

Or that Shattered Horison has superior textures, it is still an irrelevant game that noone cares about (I bet most of you couldnt even describe the gameplay of the game to me without first going and watching a trailer of it).

or that stalker has the best lighting in the world that looks so good it can cure cancer. Doesnt stop it from looking absolutely terrible next to games like Uncharted 2 both artistically and gameplay wise (which is the game in question they are usually comparing it to) and the other PS3 exclusives cows have.

Woopdeedoo, you have a Crysis mod with 400 Humvees stacked on top of eachother just to see how many you could do. Or 1000 character models on screen standing shoulder to shoulder just for the hell of it. They are good for a tech demo, but what do you have after that?

Because those games have great graphics, more so than most console games.

Perhaps if the you didn't suffer from such ignorance on the subject, you may be able to be open minded enough to enjoy some of these experiences like Arma2 and Total War that will never be capable on a console.

high end gaming is slim pickings these days. but even an older game can look better on pc then any console game. run bio shock at 25600x1600 and tell me uncharted looks better . i do some what agree with you talking about lame games because they look good is pointless. but i think you miss the big picture

when ever a new gpu comes out i like to look at game play videos with it but all they run is the same games. i am so sick of seeing crysis videos . its a good bench mark game but showing your pc running a old game from 07 is not a big deal.
