ive been seeing lately that alot of games have been getting 8.5's, but those are way higher than average scores....every time i see a 8 or a 8.5 I see the word flopped tossed around. Even a 7 or 7.5 is a decent score

9's used to be tossed around to good games so easily that the second a hyped up game get's less it's just a flop man. Yeah it's a good score (better now than ever with GS's higher standards lately) but still if Skyrim gets AA the threads will blow up.
PS3 launched with resistance fall of man 8.6 here on GS but all lemmings said "PS3 aint got no games" and that all of it's games were terrible because they were not AAA, so I guess in 2006 when lemmings tried to trash sony fans and the Ps3 by saying that none of it's games were any good because they were not AAA simply because the xbox360 had 1 or 2 AAAe exclusives.
Ironically lemmings said that cows couldn't use mutiplats as refrence to their library *being that Oblivion was AAA on PS3 as well* and would destroy the whole no games montra

For some stupid reason, we here like to judge the quality of a game on previous expectations & 1 reviewer's opinion. Yes, I know what your thinking, it makes no sense.

fixed for truth
Way to sum up everything wrong with system wars in one sentence.
it isn't a terrible rating but SW jumps all over it because it allows them to disparage a game for the "other" system
basically.. fanboys will be fanboys
A flop just means it didn't mean the hype, not the quality of the game.cain006Indeed. Even though some people tend to think this way, most (sane) people tend to view anything below a 5 "bad." Though, it doesn't help when Gamespot barely exercises their system below 7.0. Based on the whole "bell curve" ideal, the majority of games should be scoring in the 6.5-7.5 range.
It's strange, it's a good score, but the associated reviews seem negative when they talk about those games.
Depends on the game. If there are high expectations, an 8.5 can be disappointing. It's like a really hyped up game getting a B instead of the A or A+ everyone expected.
However, if the game doesn't have a lot of hype and it's not part of a venerable franchise, not a sequel to an awesome game, etc then an 8.5 score can be a pleasant surprise.
All depends on the game.
Fixed. actually I think that it is more accurate like that[QUOTE="peterw007"]
On System Wars:
10 - Overrated
9.5 - Buying it
9.0 - Almost Flop
8.5 - Not Even Worth Playing
8.0 - lol
7.5 or lower - It's existence should be forbidden

I'll give you a stroll down memory lane. Once upon a time Cows hyped the PS3 to be the second coming of christ. PS3 had a poor launch in 2006, and didn't get any AAA titles (on Gamespot) in 2007. Every other faction decided to rub it in their faces that the system lacked AAAs, with Cows maintaining the "Just wait for our big exclusives!"
Come 2008 PS3 finally did get AAAs (and a AAAA) but the "It needs to be AAA to matter" mantra unfortunately stuck around.
The only examples I can think of in that situation are Twilight Princess, GT5, and Killzone.[QUOTE="DarkLink77"]
When fanboys b****ed for days on end when something didn't get a 9.0.

Man , I wish I saw the Twilight Princess reaction...
So do I. :o8.5 is a good score. I don't listen to hype. Hyping games is no different than the gossip among my wife and her friends.
Why does everyone think a flop is always a bad game? A flop just means it didn't meet the expected hype. If a game that got 9,5 was hyped 10, it would be a flop.
The 8.5 stigma is far more apparent when a game was hyped as 9.5 and it got 8.5, falling short of an AAA rank. And it seems like the common perception is that 8.5 is bad, but it really isn't, just that it's the score most of us tend to see when a game falls short of AAA. Case in point, Killzone 3, Battlefield 3, Marvel vs Capcom 3 etc.
Now, if a DBZ game, say....Ultimate Tenkaichi managed to get an 8.5.....wouldn't that be something? But if it did, no one will complain right? A classical case of Murphy's Law. But it's all psychological.

Flop is about the hype
For example Infamous 2 was hyped AAA and got 7.5/10, that is a flop
Gunstringer for Kinect was hyped below A (garbage as all Kinect games are called here) and got AA and 8.5/10, that was a huge success and confirmed Kinect as one of the best devices in gaming
Then there is the middle ground, games that were hyped 9.5-10/10 and get 9/10, like Uncharted 3, these dont fall in any category, as AAA is 9-9.9, so the hype method fails in this case, since makes no difference if the game is 9 or 9.9, while in reality it does

What about fable 3's 7, was that a flop?
