About 15 years from now is my guess.
Until we have the rendering technology to detail every molecule that makes up every single thing in an object, person and place... then we cannot call it "photo realistic".ZevianderYeah because cameras have the capability to photograph molecules :|.

When this engine gets released it will mark a new beginning.

You're joking, right? Euclideon "unlimited detail" failed as a game engine as predicted. If you go to their website you'll see they're not even pushing it as a potential game engine anymore.
Can it happen? probably... Will it happen? Not for a very very very very long time we will all be dead and most likely our children and so on....
Right now if you take the best movies made with computers it takes a very long time to render some scenes for the movie... And to do it in real time in games? Its very very far away...

Has to come to CGI first. We are almost there (Tron: Legacy). Once we go there with CGI, games will follow10-15 years later (we are at "Toy Story Graphics" now... on the PC).
Project Cars looks really well too:
Remember the graphics on PC actually look like that. (opposed to consoles which produce such graphics only on stills)

Incorrect.
Toy Story still features more polygons than any game out there.
Sad but true.
CGI will always have the advantage over real-time graphics simply because it's not rendered on a single system and in real-time but on very powerful render farms which render it slowly and then play the produced movie in real-time.
But the borders are slowly blurring and most people don't see a difference between a few thousand polygons and several millions anyway.

Not a problem on the PC.
Turn on 16x MSAA and you won't see any at all.

Then you should have posted pics with 16x MSAA in 1080p instead. Please Log In to post.
