...next year will it be too late? My point is, Microsoft released their xbox in 2001 and 360 in 2005. That's a 4 year gap, if they have it their way again we'll be looking at a new xbox in 2009. In other words, that's 1 year after Sony finally begins to get their "big guns" out and begins to build a larger userbase for the PS3. By this time all the hype would be put back on Microsoft leaving PS3 in the dust. What do you think?

It's alaready 1 year into the "next gen" for Sony and they have very little to show for.

I think M$ will stick with the 360 a while longer, we will probably see it being pushed to it's limits, just like the PS2 was.

No it won't. If you ask me, PS3 is just being "born" so to speak. Before $399 and the good games which have started coming, It was just "the other console in the race", now its a competitor.

Microsoft might want to make a healthy amount of profit before jumping to the next console. Xbox was always designed as a stepping stone to the 360, which is why MS rushed to market so quickly.

I think that 2008, MS will no longer buy up developers, but gain more of the console market by paying $$$$$ of cash to keep many titles exclusive......maybe even a few multi-plat games.

To say no more means they have been doing that within the past 2 years. They haven't so I don't understand your point. They actually need to by another diverse developer.

It's possible it will be. If 3rd party developers have shifted their focus to 360 or Wii for exclusive games then it will not be in a good situation. Sales translate into developer support and developer support translates into more sales.
