as some of you may nknow my ps3 died. I've had 2 360's die on me. It was really easy to ship and I got emails from sony telling me what was going on. The 360 has a support area on the xbox site you have to go to and put in your info to see what's going on and It takes a long time to get your xbox back. They recieved my ps3 at 8:00 am yesterday. by 7:57 pm i recieved an email that my new ps3 had been shipped to me with a tracking number so I could check where it was at. The only down side was that my ps3 was out of warranty and I had to pay 150 plus tax to get it fixed.

It depends on the issue. If you have a RRoD issue on 360 its covered for free. You can't beat getting your stuff fixed for free. I found my emails from Sony were very slow. I had to go to their site to see my status anyway. The real point here is: Having your console break sucks a big one! I hated not having my PS3. I use it in so many ways that it is a HUGE deal to go without it. It doesn't matter what system you have, that sucks and always will. Free, good customer service, whatever. Its still sucks.

Just like most electronics, Sony's warranty on the PS3 is one year. And then they give you a 90-day warranty on a fixed system. Pretty standard stuff. Extended warranties FTW, on ANY console.

mines still covered, it's 3 years from the date you bought the console, not the date the system launched, and MS never said they had stopped the 3yr warranty

Microsoft only give out RROD warranty for 3 years. Cut making baseless assumptions.

no, the console is covered for 3 years from the date you bought the console, it's up for people who purchased there system at launch, also i might add, gamestores in the UK will not accept a RROD console, even if it's still under store warranty.

who's making assumptions?, RROD is three year warranty from the date of purchase, it's not an assumption it's fact, i'm waiting for my pro which i bought 18 months ago to come back, about another week to go.

WHEN they break. PS3's failure rate is microscopic compared to 360.

My Elite red ringed on Sunday (E74). I called MS and got a confirmation number that setup a shipping label. I put it in a box and sent it off. It was a pretty smooth process.

About the Warranty: All RROD returns are covered for 3 years from the time of purchase. So if you bought a 360 today, you are covered for 3 years from today.

I was also told by the support person that when you get your 360 back from repair, your warranty is renewed.

Hmmm, that is questionable.

Either they have the RRoD solution or they don't. If they do, why extend the warranty on a fixed unit for 3 more years?

My guess is, they warranty it for a limited time like the PS3. Or they take that onto what you have left from the original 3 year RRoD coverage.

I have no idea. But as far as I'm concerned, it's all the same crap. But as long as I can get it repaired/replaced for free, it's all good.

Find out how many watts are on the power brick for the ones with the Jasper chip and make sure you get that one, also the newer elites should not be as loud. My friend has a new elite and it seems it might have a different disk drive.
