If Ninty are smart, when it's sells start getting dangerously close too Ps3 and 360. ;)
If that ever happens.
I think you guy's mind will be blown if you ever take an economics class. Here are some things to think about:
Those are key factors that affect Nintendo's sales and whether they will do a price drop. I think sales here would have to plummet by like 50% in order for them to purchase. I think $199 360 doesn't hurt the Wii at all. The Wii is a good Nintendo system in the sense that since the N64, Nintendo has had crap 3rd party support and the only reason to purcahse it was to buy the latest Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Metroid, etc game and nothing else.
Eventually I think people who get into gaming via the Wii will want a little bit more than only Nintendo games (to me Nintendo is always a good second system to own, but not good enough to be your only system). A $199 360 is a good entry point for them. However, thats not going to hurt the Wii.

- A price drop won't boost your sales if you already sell 100% of what you make
- The US dollar is weak so even if sales decrease here they can divert units to more profitable locations
- There is something special about the Wii vs the other consoles. Your 60 year old grandma has been alive since the Atari but the Wii is the first console she's ever purchased. Think about that.

Hey, this is system wars, stop being logical.
Seriously though, great post, too bad that most people will ignore it. :( I've pretty much given up on making big posts about Blue Ocean, Economics, Supply and Demand, or the only true paradigm shifts in the industry. No one ever reads them.

The DS hasn't had a price drop, I doubt the Wii will have on until the very end of its life if it all.bobbetybob
The DS actually did around the time when the DS Lite was released. However, unlike the PS3 and Xbox 360, it had only one price drop. I believe the PSP had only one price drop as well.
As others have said before me, Nintendo will not drop the price of the Wii until demand for it declines.
