If they haven't figured it out by now, I don't think they ever will. MS better avoid these hardware problems with the next console, or having great software might not matter...

Not any time soon. Its sickening to read all the 'my 360 died but its ok because i got another one in 2 weeks' posts. If 360 owners are ok with their 360 dying then so is Microsoft. So why should they fix it?

I'd say 2/10 X360's RROD. However, MS is releasing the smaller GPU system next summer which is the hypothetical reason behind the failures - fried Ati chips.

I believe RRoDs will be rare by 2009, as I'm sure its MS's main concern (it is the limiting factor from x360 being financially successful)

MS would have to make the 360 louder to try to prevent RROD.

Do you actually think MS doesn't care about the 1 billion dollars they spent on the 3 year warranty? GEEZ, fanboys will believe anything. BTW the they just came out with the 65nm CPU that will probably solve the problem.

People keep buying it regardless, so I guess they probably don't care if it gets fixed. In my opinion it's hard to feel sorry for anyone who buys an X360 and experiences the RROD knowing that it has this flaw in it. I don't want to be mean, but why do people support crap when there are so many good games on all other systems.

Blue-Sky

I can say 9/10 and it means nothing as well. We don't know because MS won't say which implies it's high. All Microsoft has said is that **ALL** X360 systems have the defect. So that means they all have the potential to die at anytime.

2 outta 10. no just no. ALL 360s have the same damn defect. every single person I've met thats owned one, save for one, ONE, has had at least one die on them. the thing is a busted POS and I've personally gone through 3. that would be why I'm a ps3 owner now.

if ms cant figure out to fix a simple hardware flaw by putting a bigger cooling fan on top of the gpu then i am afraid when ms introduces its digital distribution to the consumer. their machine might go haywire and starts a revolution against human race and dominate us. wait i think that was a movie. i dont remember which one though

Says who? MS hasn't said it's fixed yet. I haven't seen Gamespot say it's fixed, or IGN, or come to think of it there isn't a single reputable site claiming it's fixed. The 65nm CPU lowers Microsoft production costs thats all. Secondly it's the GPU that causes the RROD not the CPU.

I too have read this on smaller sites. Not sure what to believe as far as that goes. The one thing I do know is they are extremely unreliable and no sane person would consider getting one right now.

Who says it's caused by heat... Maybe it's a failure in the GPU's RAM.

I thought it was common knowledge that the GPU caused the issue. But for all I care it could be the hamster running out of water. As a consumer it doesn't matter to me what causes it, the fact is it's still not fixed. At the end of the day that's all I care about.

They already started implementing the new new heat_sink copper coils in the current XBox 360. They also include a CPU that runs cooler now. The only thing they need to add next is a cooler GPU and many a strong fan over it. If they do that the RROD should be a thing of the past. They are fixing it though and that a step in the right direction.

No it's a commonly accpeted rumor... I don't think anyone but Microsoft knows what really causes it. But people seem to assume sense it gets hot, and has a loud fan it's becuause it over heats... Which might be part of it... but if it were the CPU and not the GPU why couldn't the GPU ouput a message on your Sceen as a reaction to not getting a signal form the CPU...

And Who knows if it's the GPU over heating... or the ram going bad... the power supply, or a million other things...

Probably solve it? Are there any official statements from MS that these 65nm chips, falcon chips, maverick chips, etc are the solution to the rrod? 99% of people who post about the 65nm probably dont even know what 65nm stands for... myself included.

Just bought a new 360 elite with the falcon board and after playing for 6 hours straight the system barely feels warm. The falcons have 65 NM cpu, slightly smaller gpu (somewhere between 65 and 90 NM) and the much larger heatsink that M.S. has been implementing plus a few other changes to the parts on the board which allow the new 360's to run at a lower wattage and also helps reduce heat. These should eliminate most RROD cases.

not until they use the 65nm chips for the graphics cards, thats what causes the RRoD anyway, not the processor. its the graphics card packed so tightly under the dvd tray with a small heat sink that causes it.

They already reduced the size of the gpu and put in a larger heatsink. The cpu is 65NM and the gpu is somewhere inbetween 90 and 65 NM. The new elite I bought barely gets warm.

recall and redesign is the onlyway, and i stilldont know how a business can sellsomething that is faulty.

and what is going to be a huge issue is this time next year when the launch owners 3 year warrenty runs out and they are SOL
