Fanboyizing Nintendo or the Wii has become very much a mental disease that was created by hardcore Nintendo fans so they might cope with the sad and harsh reality this gen has placed them in. I call it a mental disease because someone should NOT be able to support Wii, especially to an almost fanatical extent, if they simply look at what Nintendo and the Wii stand for.
The company they worship is taking their support for granted, offering their time old fans a vastly inferior product at a ridiculous price. The Wii is years behind other gaming machines on the market, and provides little more than a control scheme that only some users find innovating or fun. Wii fans much stomach a hailstorm of terrible, cliche, games that seek to expand the gaming market. Once the market expands, Nintendo will use their resources to make games for their new base of fans, abandoning those gamers who still demand quality products. They throw time-old fans an occasional bone once in the while, in the form of a tired, boring, franchise (whose marketing icons will ensure profit alone), that Nintendo fans desperately gobble up without question.
Nintendo fans ignore the fact that the hardware is grossly overpriced and outdated.
They ignore the fact that Nintendo's mission statement disregards their current demands and their very conception of gaming.
They ignore the fact that Nintendo has exerted almost no effort to aqquire meaningful, adult-orientened, third party game developers.
They ignore the fact that they've being fed the same franchised garbage they've been stomaching for over ten years.
They ignore the fact that Nintendo franchise games lack depth, character, originality, and meaning.
They ignore the fact that the console has limited functionality.
They ignore the fact that they are being exploited and their hard earned money is being unethically picked from their pockets.
For a gamer to support Nintendo at the current time, on any rational premise, is simply illogical and impossible. Either you don't know the facts, you're so manipulated by marketing icons that you ignore them, or you enjoy seeing the simplification and decline of gaming: it is a mental disease.
