I can no longer do gamestop.
Steam, GOG, GMG, Humble Store, and ocasionally Origin if I have to. I don't understand why people go for physical copies anymore. Having my games with me whereever I go, on any computer, saves in the cloud, and not having the potential to scratch or loose a disk. I don't see why a disc is so appealing to some, other than nostolgia.
usually from steam, amazon, gmg, or gamersgate.
browse cheapshark, check cdkeyprices.com - I'll buy from other places
we get a great exchange rate against the american dollar, that and other factors help me save some ~60% over console games day-1. ($44 vs $120, roughly)
The Stores, reason: My internet is shit.
Occasionally I'll buy a few games off Steam/Origin etc. for my PC but for consoles it's strictly hard copies.
Mix of places, GameStop's mostly because their all over, Amazon for harder to find stuff at a good price, Best Buy because they price match without verifying. When looking for harder to find stuff at retail I'm sometimes surprised if I step into a Walmert, Toys R Us, Target, Kmart. The Fry's where I used to live use to have one of the largest selection of titles for all systems, and random deals on good games. Since then I've moved and stores nearby don't even have a fraction of the selection.
I use to get games at the MS Store for a while, they'd always have these deals when I step in and get a $25 gift card for doing a Bing-Google comparison test. They also had this stretch where they'd give you like $10 store credit and $20 in MS points on pre-order pickups... I totally took advantage of this for several months, and funny thing was they were always either out of those $20 MS point cards, and/or the $10 store gift cards, and they'd give me the next best things, $25 MS Store gift cards and $50 in MS points. And they were always so chill about it too. They had these deals a lot toward the end of 2012, I haven't really been back since though after moving, plus I no longer have an Xbox 360.
Pretty much online stores and DD for me.
I really don't like high street game stores. The independent stores always seem to be run by people I end up not liking, some arrogant fat prick that thinks they own gaming, the type you'd see in the South Park episode 'Make Love Not Warcraft'.
I especially hate chain stores. Especially GAME in the UK with their over priced 'pre-owned' games, they charge like £30 for any good games, and all the shit ones are are cheap. And why are those dick heads so judgmental, sometime I'm browsing the old cheap PC games 'Xplosiv' range if that rings a bell to anyone. And they're always judging you, I bring it to the till and they look at me like I'm buying Leisure Suit Larry [whish I did not] or some such shit. If you're older than 10 and you're even considering bringing Pokemon to the tills, they'd probably look at you like you belong on a register.
I'm just sick of that bullshit. At least online, I get vastly better deals and I don't have to deal with these guys.
I bet in America, you go into a game store and everyones just really friendly 'hey buddy, how are you today, what can I do for you? That's a super choice, I'm sure you're going to have a ton of fun with that, see ya next time, high five? yeahhh there ya go'.
In the UK it's: *que miserable bastard 'mate, [looks at you like you tried to lick his face, which I do not do], that'll be £4.99, wanna bag? NEXT'.
Online stores + digital however the last physical game I bought was The Last Of Us. Everything since has been anything that looks sexy in the PS Store sales. If PS4 & Bone had a 2TB HDD I'd go all digital in gen 8. But a puny 500 gigs ain't gonna cut the mustard. YOU HEAR ME, SONY/MS? THE MUSTARD WON'T BE CUT.
Green man gaming: cheaper prices than steam with voucher codes
PSN: great deals from time to time
Steam: if there is nothing cheaper
Humble Bundle: probably the cheapest, because I can pay in dollars, though game selection has been lacking lately
Or straight from the devs if I can, to show my support
Game Mania.
It's right across the street.
It's also expensive, I usually shop at Media Markt :p
Gamemania does some great actions from time to time though. Like I got GTA V for 30 euro.
I'm typically buying my game digitally now. Usually pick up stuff in the steam sales.
Other times I will grab some of the deals from GreenManGaming.
If it's a recent release I will usually grab it from CDKeyExpress, G2Play etc, mostly using cdkeyprices, or whatever is cheapest but still a reputable store.
Love Amazon though thier prices are usually really good, especially for old games.
A combination of all methods: retail and digital downloads.
Many older games that I couldn't find anywhere else somehow turned up in stores such as Staples. These include games such as STALKER: Call of Pripyat, World In Conflict, and the first Homeworld. These games sold as $10 specials.
Other newer games I bought retail because I grabbed them on an impulse. These include Far Cry 3, Crysis 3, Metro last Light, and the Mass Effect Trilogy. The last three were my total purchases for 2013 which turned out to be the fewest ever because I was so engrossed with Far Cry 3.
Still other games I buy digital. There is no physical copy for Hard Reset or the PC version of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. This year, I bought a digital copy of Bioshock Infinite because it was cheaper to get the game and the season pass together (than separately).
If I do buy Bioshock 2 (PC) to complete my Bioshock experience, I'll probably buy the disc version because there's plenty of them out there.

Depends. On all the Gamestops I've been to, the clerks are usually chatty. Talk about a game and they turn into motor mouths.
He He. I remember one clerk who took one look at the Eternal Sonata game I was buying for my kid, and he started giving pointers (together with the cashier). I had to tell them to stop because the game was for my kid, not me. Of course, they suggested I should try the game sometimes. ;)
In places like Wal-Mart, the clerks/cashiers are too busy to be judgemental. I'm sure they have more serious matters in their mind. But, if I ask for help, they're usually quite willing.
Steam almost exclusively now.
I've bought games from GOG in the past, but they don't have crazy sales like Steam does (at least when I have money).
Also Humble Bundle's every once in a while.
Anything I buy retail usually ends up being from whatever store has it on sale, or whichever is closest to my place of residence on launch day.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I am so happy I am not.
@HalcyonScarlet:
Bro, you can't let that sh!t bother you. There are a couple of ways to deal with it:
1) Just don't give a single f*ck and remember that while you're buying games with your money they are there, behind the counter, working a (more than likely) lousy paying job;
2) Look back at them like you're about to crack them open when they give you that judgmental look :P
3) If any of them make any sort of dumb remark just demand the complaint book (? Not sure if this is the correct name). 99% of them will immediately apologize and try to please you. This works for every retail store/service you may use, really.
Boom! Problem solved! Personally I never had to experience that in the retail stores (not that I have used many, just 2-3 near my house really) but the not giving a single f*ck tactic seems to work well enough hehe :P
I know, but it's just so many times. And it usually get's me by surprise because I infrequently go into stores to buy stuff because of online. I don't mind the other media stores like HMV that sell everything DVDs, CDs etc, they don't care what you bring to the till. And that's kind of how I expect it.
It's a bigger deal than I said. One time a lot of people wrote in to this games magazine complaining about the same thing and after a while the magazine wrote to the retail store company GAME to complain.
Ok, I don't play Pokemon games anymore, mainly because they haven't differed much for a long time, and I don't have a 3DS for the new one that does. However, I've always been against the idea that Pokemon was marketed so heavily towards children even from the 90s, because in my opinion it has to be one of the most perfect handheld games, I was blown away that they were able to make a game that good on the GameBoy back in the day. So no one should be made to feel self conscious about buying a copy regardless of their age. It's just dumb.
You're right though, I shouldn't care, but after a while it just did. Thanks though.

lol that's how it should be. Sounds pretty good. In America right?

lol I know right, I thought I was the only one too, I imagined everyone would jump to defend the indie stores.

Yup. I'm sure there are Gamestops with clerks like those you described. But, out here in the rural areas and smaller cities/towns, people are generally friendlier compared to those in the big cities. That could be why.
