So now that the disaster known as Tony Hawk Ride (that everyone saw coming) has manifested in an absolute mess of a game/tech demo, where do you think the Tony Hawk franchise is headed? Do you think priorities will be re-examined and Tony Hawk will go back to its roots? Or do you think the next entry will be another craptastic experiment?

I would love for the franchise to go back to its roots, but I'm pretty sure the latter is going to happen.

If it goes back to its roots it would still be bad because what was great on the PS1, N64, and Dreamcast wouldn't really be great this gen since their have been other games like Skate that do it better.

Hopefully into the trash bin, so it can save some of its dignity from the PS/early-PS2 era.

I don't think going back to its roots is wise. It kind of milked that sty-le of skateboarding for all it was worth. Honestly no clue where they are going with Tony Hawk at this point. THey seemed to have hit rock bottom this time.

I don't know. I think a some cleverly designed objectives and more dynamic, well thought out skate parks could breath a little bit of life into the old formula. It might not ever be groundbreaking again, but a game that goes back to the series roots could be decent.

But then again, you could be right. That formula might just straight-up be burned out, why might be why they overreached so much with Ride.

A lot of the issues with ride is that skateboard thing. I am curious to see how the game could have been if that wasn't such an issue. Wonder if they might take another shot at trying to get it right.

I dont think its going anywhere for a while, unless Tony Hawk doesnt fail as badly in sales as it did in scores.

With Ride failing like it did, I'm not sure they'll see it as a pragmatic option to try and get it right. There's a better cost/benefit ratio in just coming out with a typical Tony Hawk game.

Still, I too am curious to see what the game would be like if the technology wasn't crap. I imagine it still wouldn't be all that strong due to the massive stripping down that the gameplay/environments received to accomodate the technology.

Ah...I see what you did there. :P Anyways, I think that they'll try to go back to what they did great before, but it'll still end up being a pale imitator of its former self. I don't think they could possibly make a new Tony Hawk game that could compare to Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 or Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3. The last Tony Hawk game I really remember liking was Underground or Project 8.

If anything I think skate boarding has had a massive increase in popularity over the past few years and it's not like it was dying before.
