With the XBOX360 having 3 cores and most PC's having either dual or quad cores where does this leave the PS3? I am pretty sure that developers are soon going to start maximizing these new technologies in the near future. When they do, would't this have an impact on the PS3? Especially if it is fore a multiplatform title. It almost seems that the 360 and the PC are the real next gen systems. Thats just my 2 cents. Sorry if this had been discussed before.

The point of multiple cores is being able to run a large number of threads.  The 360's CPU is a multiple-core approach, whereas Cell's architecture has one 'core' and a bunch of sub-cores, each of which can run a thread.  In fact, PS3's Cell can run more simultaneous threads than 360's CPU can.

It has been has been talked about before along time ago = Ps3 cell stronger but difficult to program for vs 360 xenon weaker but alot easier to program = time cost money but latter gen ps3 games will have a edge.

Some PPUS are either disabled or saved for redundancies in PS3s.

That is ture ;) However game engines seem to be made for PC cores, then ported over if the company wishes. The xbox versions. Well that is easy enough. PS3 core, would require a lot of memory and prossessing handeling to be re-written. Im so glad i dont do that low level programming, as it would be a pain in the ass to modify the basics of a game without screwing up the upper coding too much.

hrm... well, for a random example, i'm wondering if a game like supreme commander would slaughter the PS3's cpu style. it's got HUGE cpu overhead in terms of AI, which is lots of branching code, which... the SPE's are not good at running, correct?
