Where is Sony?

Kind of surprised there's no thread on this yet. We're in the midst of E3 season. We've known for quite some time that Playstation would not be at E3... again. Usually they've announced a State of Play or their own show of sorts that would be shown shortly after E3.

This year... crickets.

As of the writing of this post, Sony has yet to announce anything to show off in development or even new announcements for games coming to their newly released PS5 that hasn't even been out a year.

Their main competitor, Microsoft, has been doing an incredible job building hype for their brand as of late. I expected Sony to respond in kind to build hype for PS5. Perhaps the usual will happen and shortly (within a day) of this post, Sony will announce their show... but it seems all Sony knows how to do anymore is be reactionary instead of lead the charge as they've done in the past.

I bought a PS5 at launch to play incredible new games. The most excitement I've had this gen so far is replaying Mass Effect... a nearly 15 year old game, remastered on PS4 and played on my PS5. First years are always tough but at least we had a lot to look forward too on previous gens.

Ratchet and Clank was released on Friday and Returnal the month before. Neither of those games interest you?

Besides, Sony tends to announce their video showcase about a week prior to the date.

Sony's going to let Microsoft faceplant and then do their own show later. Just look how bad the shows have been, Sony was right to skip E3 again. They don't want to associate their bangers with the vomit the rest of the industry is putting out.

They have also been busy releasing games.

Sony released several games recently and also a state of play for horizon. Is it E3 caliber.... no. But it's not like they're doing nothing.

@xantufrog: can't really see why he's worried. A week ago they showed a HFW gameplay trailer and they're consistently marketing and releasing games. Sony don't really need an event like E3.

Off acting like they're too good to interact and announce shit for fans to be excited for.

I'm not against them coming back, they've done some fantastic E3s in the past. But I think their mentality has been to make announcements when/where they see fit. They did the Horizon State of Play and that was great. Also, they've released two fantastic games recently. Returnal and Ratchet and Clank are both incredible games. I also think they don't want to overhype their games. I feel like E3 has become that over the years. Too much overhype and not enough delivery.

Sony's released 8 first party games since launching the PS5. How many has Microsoft released?

Name those 8 for me.

Nope, I'm genuinely curious and Microsoft haven't released any first party games since the Series X launched, that is why their E3 is exciting.

Sony have made 5 of those games and only 4 of them are actually exclusive to PlayStation...which will change.

E3 has been very bad so far, that I don’t blame Sony for skipping this year. It’s sad, but the only good event this year will be Nintendo’s. ,because we all know how bad MS hold their events :(

Imagine having 23 studios including Bethesda and losing to Nintendo. That sounds like a very Microsoft thing to do.

Companies define what first party is. Sony considers every one of those games first party. You using a site anyone can edit in an attempt to claim some sort of ownage just because you have buyers remorse over your XSX is rather sad.

No because I have not once claimed that I own a Series X. I own an Xbox One X and was tempted to buy a Series S just for The Medium and Flight Simulator but I have never said I own any of the new consoles.

Sony owns the IP. They have full control over where it goes. They funded it. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish here lol.

Nintendo own Metroid but they had a second party developer make it for them. Demon's Souls is not made by a first party studio.

Just bought two Sony releases back to back. I like games in my hand, not just hype for shit years away. They show us what's up in their State of Plays.
