If loyalty is such a big deal to video game owners, where are all of these people? Less than 3% of (more than likely) former PS2 owners made the jump to PS3, in a 7-8 month time period, more or less. Where are all of the blind loyal sony fans? Or could it be that most PS2 owners consider VALUE to be an important consideration? As in, utility of what you get versus what you pay for? The 360 is nearing the HALFWAY point in sales (44% or so as of now) of the original xbox (which was 24 million), are XBOX fans that much more loyal, or is there more value in the 360 right now? I would bet that most 360 owners also owned a PS2 (myself included).

They went to other consoles.

Or are still playing the PS2s because those unlike the PS3 were terrific.

You honestly think there were that many fans? I would bet that atleast 30-40 million of those PS2s were random families and they forgot that they have one.

Ok, by that logic, then suppose that 30-40 million PS2s have been forgotten about. That leaves roughly 80 million PS2s, at worst case scenario. That makes it around 4% who have made the jump to PS3 so far.

Ok, be realistic for one second and think to yourself about what you are asking..even if all PS2 owners wanted a PS3, Sony couldnt supply them..PS2 sold like crack after it price dropped to 199.99...in 2-3 years after 2 price drops they will move systems, but it takes several years to sell 20 or 30 million...

Yeah, but the PS2 went from $299 to $199 over that time period. $199 is the price that consoles really start to take off. It will be a LONG time before the PS3 is even close to that price, let alone $299 (which is, ironically, HALF of the current cost of the PS3)

If Blu-Ray wins, PS3 will cost 349.99 winter 09 and 249.99 winter 2010. I would guess it like that.

So basically Sony has one year to play catch-up with the Wii and 360 when 2010 is reached. Thats the last year of this generation.

If Blu-Ray wins, PS3 will cost 349.99 winter 09 and 249.99 winter 2010. I would guess it like that.

The generation ends 2011. Thats only a year to play catchup with the 360 and the Wii.

I think it's pretty safe to say that it was sarcasm. Now, if he had said "wait until 2008/2009" then he might have been serious, because I see that a lot on SW.

Those people are either still playing the PS2 or have picked up the Wii. Cows have to realize that over 85% of the people who bought the PS2 were casual gamers. The majority of these casual games bought the PS2 when it was priced $199 or less. The PS3 is priced at $600 (3x's more then the PS2) and that doesn't include a game or extra controller. For a casual gamer to even enjoy the PS3 in at it's best they need to buy at least 1 games ($60) and the HDMI cable ($30) to play on the HDTV. That's almost $750 after tax for the PS3. Most casual gamers don't have that kind of dough to burn on a came console. So it's not all about loyality, it all about the doe-rae-mee money.

Do you mean when Sony drops the price by $100 at most, which generates zero noticeable increase in sales (because $499 is still too much?)? Or do you mean the third party games that will also be mostly ported over to the 360 eventually by game developers who want to see some economic return on their hard work?

He's right. I know that gamers tend to want the newest best thing, but there are a lot of people still buying ps2s and their games. Not only that, whether people want to admit it or not the economy in the US and many other countries isn't doing that hot (look at how the dollar has dropped to the Euro, and their still charging more for the thing over there). So not a whole lot of people are gonna go out and buy a ps3 right off the bat. Take me for instance. I bought a ps3 last month, but when I brought it home my roomate looked at me like I was crazy. We both wanted a ps3, but he would never spend 600 bucks on a system. His girlfriends reaction was better. We were talking about it and she goes "Your not going to buy one, are you?" To which I replied, "Go look in my room"

Point is the average consumer just isn't gonna support the ps3 until the price drops and it's been out for a couple of years.

Over half of the Sony "loyalists" were ignorant people who bought it because they didn't have a DVD player yet.

You know MS representatives didn't show up at all of the original Xbox owner's doors and demand the consoles once the 360 released, right? I swear, I will never understand the crying about backwards compatibility, considering the "old" console is still working just fine. As far as new releases go, yeah, I guess you can whine about 1st party titles no longer being produced but if you consider how much money MS lost with the original Xbox, can you blame them?

And how do you know "over half" just wanted a DVD player. I'm not saying your wrong, but without a reference it looks like your guessing based on your opinion. Which if that's the case, you should say so, not declare it like it is fact.

If it is a fact, provide a link cause I'm really interested to see where such data came from.

I understand your frustration but you can't deny that they were losing money on the original Xbox. Also, consider the benefit MS gained by being first this generation. I understand why you are bitter but it is business.

PS2 is still selling very well. When people finally get sick of PS2, then PS3 sales will climb immensely. I hate to say this (because I'm a shemming) but 360 will finish in last place. Wii 1st place.

just WAIT tc,please WAITwiistation360

I have been waiting for almost 8 months. How much longer must I wait? Honestly, as much as I hate how Sony has screwed up the PS3, and I have switched sides to MS because of Sony's idiocy, I will say that I would buy a PS3 if it dropped down to $199. That is a THIRD of it's current price! But that's only if enough good games are out too. I bought my 360 Premium for $200 (Microcenter rebate last holiday season), so I won't pay any more than that for a gaming system.

Most people with a PS2 dont have a good reason to make the jump yet, buy a PS3 to play PS2 games? Might as well wait until something amazing comes out and by then the price should be lower on the console and the few titles that they missed early in the consoles life will be greatest hits.

come on give those 30 million PS2 owners that arn't ready to go next-gen yet a break ...

PS2 is outselling 360 at the moment -- guess what that means -- it means those fans don't care about next-gen consoles for atleast another 2 - 3 years ...

I think it's pretty obvious, price and a real lack of games is still a major issue.

I buy systems for games I want to play and I'm not loyal to any company as they're just there to take my money anyway. Although admittedly, I've enjoyed both the PSone and PS2 generations. When the PS3 starts releasing games of interest, I'll jump on board.

So it's not all about loyality, it all about the doe-rae-mee money. blackace
I love when people use the casual gamer term, you do realize that most of those casual gamers are really po' folk who couldn't afford a $300 console let alone a $600 one. So the poor make up the majority of casual gamers I guess you people are getting more and more snooty by the day.

I will tell you what that means, that means people can't afford a $300, $400, $500, or $600 console that's all that means. To the families that bought all those PS2's there were more important things to spend their money on like food.

Its funny to think back to all those threads I saw a while back about how Sony would dominate because of the immense brand loyalty, and the huge Sony fanbase. Saying that, most of them were probably started by Gingerdivid or Yo_Foo, lol.

actually yess they can afford them...

they just dont see the benefit of spending that kind of money on a game machine i.e. playstation 3... which is due in part to their poor marketing of bluray inside ps3.

im pretty sure if people will spend $250 for 2GB IPODS, and brand new cell phones, the money is not the issue.

I would bet that most 360 owners also owned a PS2 (myself included). accameron

Unlike M$ and Nintendo, Sony doesn't cut off their older customers so fast. It's a gradual process. The way the PSONe customers gradually came to the PS2 around 2002-2003....even though the PS2 came out in 2000.
