Where will the 100+ million ps2 fanbase go?

Ps2 sports casual= 360 (look at madden sales)

Ps2 casual (ie DDR singstar ect)=wii

Ps2 Kid gamer(the rachet and dragon ball z kid on fans)=WII

Ps2 action gamer=split between the ps3 and 360 and wii (wii for the cost factor)

ps2 hardcore RPg gamer=hard to tell until wii gets it together with the rpgs

Too early to say. The Wii has yet to prove it can maintain a steady supply of games, the 360 has yet to fix its reliability issues and hasn't proven it has reached a much broader audience than the Xbox did, and the PS3 has yet to prove it can compete at its pricepoint(s). I'd say most likely the Wii because we should be seeing more (good) Wii 3rd party titles in the coming months and its the cheapest console.

yea because the about of poeple who own and wii and ps3 equal 100 million. lol

most still playing ps2 , few of them own ps3/360.

With a $399 PS3 coming out I'm sure we'll see PS3 gain many people, people have been waiting for the PS3 to go down and there you go. Some might buy a wii, maybe even a lot but they'll buy a PS3 and/or 360 too because, well, they don't use wiimotes for everygame known to man. A good chunk will stay with the PS brand.

Edit: yeah, I got my PS2 at launch and still have it working hard. You could say the same thing about RROD, yes ? I like the system and all but how many of those consoles do you think are people that just picked up a new one.

I think a pretty big chunk will go to the Wii, I agree with the 360 and the sport titles and multiplats in general, thanks to price.user_nat

A lot of PS2 owners play GTA, Tekken, Metal Gear Solid, and the main games in theFinal Fantasy series. You don't see those titles on Wii yet and I don't think they will be there. Then there is the stuff from Sony that they love, Gran Turismo, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Twisted Metal, God of War. None of those will be anywhere else.

Final Fantasy definently will push some units, in Japan in particular. GT is definently big.

The rest of the titles you listed sell around 3m or less, and they probably have alot of cross over fans. So its far from securing its entire 100m fanbase back. Infact, those games probably only account for 30m of them, leaving 70m.. out there.

In Pal regions, it does have a few other big system pushing games, like Singstar, Buzz! and Eyetoy.

okay, I may have over exaggerated but it still ain't anywhere near the 100 million+ fanbase most people seem to think it is, because I also owned three PS2's due to the lasers failing.

most are still playing them.. there's only been 28 million next generation consoles sold between the big 3.-Renegade

Nobody knows what console the people who got a current gen one had last gen...or even if they did. They don't poll these things. How does anybody know if the current 360 base had a xbox last gen...or how many are multiple system owners? I am going PSWii this gen but the sales will only say +1 for each system. No way of knowing.

GTA was on the Xbox last gen just 6 months later. FF will be huge and MGS4 will be too. I think both could sell 7 million plus worldwide.

(Lemmings, 7 million plus in their lifetime and the PS3's install base will be higher than that by the time they are released and each will push systems....You know that!)

But I think most will eventually head to the PS3, with some heading to the 360 and Wii. I think gaming in general is going to get a lot bigger over the next few years so I don't think it would be surprising to see all 3 consoles sell extremely well (or at least 2).

GTAIV isn't going to be as big as the last few GTAs (unfortunately).

And I think a lot of people will be surprised at how many people buy a PS3 for that game. You gotta take into account how the public will see the PS3 at the time of IV's release. Halo 3 was this year, while Sony's system sellers are next year. Hype's gonna go Sony's way. It all adds up.

1. I already said that, I got the DP for the xbox.

2. The 360 will only be cheaper by 50 bucks and the PS3 will have MGS4 around the same time....Combine those 2..and Little Big Planet and UT3 might be out around then too.....and a 399 system? Lord!

Well at least 50 mill of that install base is casuals so they will probs flock over to the Wii,while the 20 mill or so hardcore fanbase have either bought a 360/ps3 or are waiting for the ps3's big titles to come out next eyar along with some price drops.

And the other 30 mill probs don't really care.

Fanboys like you makes me ashamed for being a gamer.

Since the PS2 is still selling pretty good, my guess would be that they're still playing thier PS2s. Slowly they will move on to the next gen some sooner than others.

Not every one is into gaming like most of us. The current gen is here and people are still just buying PS2s so I expect that it will be a while before some of these folks migrate to the PS3/360/Wii.

The kids and girls who had PS2s will go with Wii for now, a few college aged dudes will go with 360s, but most are waiting for price drops and games from PS3. PS3 will last long enough on the market to satisfy most of PS2s install base.

For every day that PS3 costs significantly more than Xbox 360, and has not as many good games is a day that PS3 loses another sale. PS3 won't be as popular as PS2, but it will still be a major success. I'm thinking 80-90 Million in 10 years for PS3. 35-45 Million in 7 years for Xbox 360. And like 100 - 120 Million Wiis sold in 5 years.

As for PSP and DS, DS will last 4 more years and will sell 120 Million. PSP will last 5 more years and sell 70 Million.
