Where would 2001 rank in video game history?

2001 was one of the best years for gaming. All the great games that came out for all the consoles.

Final Fantasy 10, MGS 2, GTA 3, Gran Turismo 3, Devil May Cry, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Pikmin, Halo, Twisted Metal Black, Project Gotham Racing, Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Conker, Onimusha, Operation Flashpoint, Ico, Silent Hill 2, Jak and Daxter, Max Payne, Sonic, Red Faction, Advance Wars, etc.

I would rank it #1 or 2 on my list. What about you?

Half-Life was great, but MGS, Zelda, and Resident Evil 2 were also great games that year.

System Shock 2 alone makes '98 one of my favorite years ever (though it would've been the very, very best if Deus Ex had been released that year :) )

And you forgot Fallout 2, BTW.

Also, my own personal favorite year is probably '00; Deus Ex and Baldur's Gate 2 together make it something special. '99 was a close second, though, with Planescape Torment and Freespace 2.

I dont think there has been a recent bad year in gaming. maybe 2006.

EDIT: GeOW, Resistance, Twlight Princess, Oblivion, Wii sports, okami, FFXII, Dead Rising, GRAW, DOA4 (EU), Saints Row, Rogue Galaxy

Actually now that i think about it 2006 was very good (not the best) and i haven't even listed most of the good PS2 games.

I thought Baldur's Gate was 1998, damn Gamespot and its wrong release dates....

Yea 2001 was a pretty big year.

But in the days of the playstation one, i know that the years 1997 to 2000 were years to absolutely smash everything, esp the year 1998. Too many games to write up. 1995 to the end of 1996 was pretty ok in terms of gaming. But back then i was only 6.

So many memories...
