I don't know what the TC is talking about but I'm going with SHMUPs In that link it talks about the genre and gives sub-genres of SHMUPs like Rail Shooter, Run and Gun, Bullet Hell, Scrolling Shooters, and Fixed Shooters.Define "Shoot'em Ups".

The VC shouldn't count honestly, and the Wii library is completely empty for new SHMUP games.
Why shouldn't the VC count?
It's avalible on the Wii, Most games on the Virtual Console aren't on the 360 and PS3, and it counts to the Overall Library of Games for the Wii.

Because then the Wii would win, and we don't want that to happen now do we!![QUOTE="Yangire"]

To me if VC counts we should count emulators, the games aren't new, they aren't retail, and they aren't remade, it's just taking games directly from older platforms. The Wii might contain games like R-Type, Gradius, and Raiden (as does the PS2, but they are collections) but is completely lacking in freeware and new SHMUPs.

Yangire, We can't count Emulators even if we tried. Roms and Emulators are sort of you know..."illegal"...The Virtual Consoles is LEGAL, So it counts.

emulators are legal if you own the original game, and I'm just saying it's similar to one. Personally I think we should look at games made for the consoles rather than old games ported over for a online service.
That's a myth. They're illegal. End of story.emulators are legal if you own the original game,.

Actually, there is nothing illegal about Emulators at all. You can download an emulator whenever you want for whatever reason and not have to worry. Rom's on the other hand are only illegal if you do not own(or have purchased) a copy of the game. They are otherwise perfectly legal if you legally own the game you are emulating.[QUOTE="LegatoSkyheart"]Actually, there is nothing illegal about Emulators at all. Obviously the Saturn... Most of the Shmup on XBL and PSN are ports of old games from the Saturn.
Gue1
That's not true none of the shumps on PSN and XBL were on the Saturn outside of Raystorm HD, which was also on the PSone.

I got into a this debate before and ended up doing a whole lot of research. And if i recall, the conclusion i came to was outside of a very limited set of circumstances, roms are illegal... even if you own the game.
There was an exception for games you own and the original console cannot reasonably be found on the consumer market.... however it didnt specify retail. So I have to assume ebay counts... so as long as these old systems are easily purchased off ebay. I think its illegal even if you own the game.
