There used to be several console makers during each generation. Most aren't making consoles anymore. Last generation there were 4. Sega, after a long run, stopped making consoles, and now there are 3. Do you think all 3 systems will be succesful enough for Microsoft, Sony & Nintendo to all evolve when it times for the next next-gen systems? Or do you think one of them will give up on consoles and just focus on software, like Sega? Do you see any new companies getting into the console making business? There's a lot of talk about which system is BEST, but I want to know which system is worst, and is it bad enough to drag the whole company out of the business.

None of them will leave the console making business. They all have more money than Sega ever had. And there is room for all three. MS have a bottomless money pitt and 360 games sell extremely well. Nintendo may have finished last with N64 and Gamecube but it still made a profit for them. And Playstation will not die, it would be dead already after all the bad press and teething problems with PS3. But it's still here.

None will.

If PS3 came in last place it wouldn't matter because Sony aren't exactly going to quit the games industry after leading it for a decade. Sony will probably only quit gaming if they come last for another 3-4 gens and thats if they don't make a profit.

Microsoft won't quit gaming if they come last again because they are too damn rich. oh and Wii, we all know the Wii is not gonna come last and Nintendo has been making profit from the Wii since the beginning.

None. The Wii is selling like hotcakes, MS is going to see significant growth with the 360 (already almost at 18m after 2 years) and the PS3 will sell as a BR player regardless of games.

If anything more will enter it.

I can just see Apple entering the market when the time is right, which would be bad for us all, given how atrociously Apple fanboys behave.

None.

Microsoft - They have a unlimited amount of money.

Nintendo - They've been making profit off their consoles for years also the fact the Wii is selling like crazy.

Sony - They've been the leaders for 2 generations, one generation of not being the leader isn't going to kill them and they aren't doing that bad just not as good as the other two and the previous playstations.

So yeah none will fail/call it quits. Sega dropped out because they lost a lot of money from Sega CD, Sega Game Gear, Sega 32X, and Sega Saturn.

I've heard rumours of Nintendo having billions of dollars just for emergancy funds. I think Nintendo is a lot richer than you think, and even if they did fail in the console market, they still have the handheld market to fall back to.

None will quit because aside from their million of dollars invested in each console, they have a very big potential to make millions if not billions.....

The most likely candidate? Microsoft. Why? Because they still aren't turning green in the games department, they're having tons of costumer issues, and their systems are costing them billions. Microsoft may have deep pockets, but even a monkey knows when to cut an infected arm off.
