If you can get a 60gb PS3 then I would go for that before they run out as the future 40gb ones will never run PS2 games.
I did and I have been playing a copy of Okami for PS2 I got in the bargin bins for a couple of quid and the improved PS2 graphics delivered by the PS3 emulator makes this already beautiful game look even better than some of the PS3 games I bought!
If you want to wave your arms around a lot over christmas though then get the Wii :)
It really depends on what you want to play. If you like Mario games and are into motion sensing, or if you want to play old classic games by buying them off the Wii Shop Channel, then get the Wii. If you personally dislike the games on the Wii, then just stick with the system you have. The 360 has most of the good games that are also on the PS3. Wait till either Metal Gear Solid 4 or Final Fantasy XIII is released before even bothering with the PS3.
Of course, if you don't like the games that are currently on the Wii, then at least get a Wii by the time Super Smash Bros. Brawl. comes out.
I'm not into fighting games either. I'm just into Super Smash Bros. I was first drawn to the N64 one because it featured Nintendo's main franchise characters fighting each other. Link vs. Samus. Mario vs. Pikachu. And then there's Kirby, with the ability to take on a skill by swallowing another character.
Melee was even better, since it had a considerably higher budget (Nintendo didn't expect the first game to be very popular).
since ure a tech buff TC, id imagine the PS3 might be more up ure alley. its basically a complete multimieda center and has an absolute truck load of features. its also powerful and, if u want, u can put linux on it which can be pretty kewl (i must do it myself someday). as for games, it really boils down to exclusives since multiplats are basically the same across both platforms. obhiously u will need a PS3 for GT (0% chance of that going to 360 since its developed by sony) and chances are games like MGS4 and FF13 will also remain exclusive. combine that with blu-ray movies and hook it all up to a HDTV and ure sorted for multimedia. so really ask ureself...are the exclusives worth it? also look out for deals. i got a 60GB and 2 games for 500 euro. also yes the PS3 has an ethernet port so u can use a cable to connect it to ure router.
wii may not really hold ure interest. id doesent do HD (its 480P max) and, from a technical standpoint, its weak compared to the other machines. it does have some crackin games like zelda and galaxy though and chances are its going to offer a very different selection to the other 2 in terms of the types of games. imho that makes it an excellent complimentary machine for a PS3 or 360. it also has some nice features like the news channel which might interest. personally i love the wii because its so different from the other 2 but its not for everyone. its not full of features and its not powerful compared to the others. so if the games arent interesting u much then wii may not be ure thing. the implementation of controls on wii can also make or break a game so its something to watch out for when getting a game for wii. also the wii needs an addon for ethenet, only wireless is standard.
imho i think the PS3 will be more up ure alley if the exclusives like uncharted and GT interest u.
Cheers, I think I may go with the Playstation 3 as it has more of the games I am looking for (I like my racing and sports games, as well as fps titles with a good story, but, I am also willing to try other titles as well).
I have seen a Playstation 3 for £280 with Heavenly Sword if thats a good deal?

Good choice, but asking here was the wrong one.
Too many people are fanboys and will tell you one sided to get one console. I think the PS3 is for a more "adult" crowd, who want serious games that have a sense of realism. The Wii is more a simple, but kind of fun console. I'm bored with my Wii. I play my PS3 all the time, and I love it.
How many GB was the PS3 you found? And Heavenly Sword is a great game.
If I were in your position, I would buy the Wii first...too many great games to pass up.cecx
What great games?
He said he was a tech freak, the wii has nothing technical about it. Graphics are worse than the PS2 and the only online game that uses ervers is MOHH2 and im sure that game cant get close to CoD4 in gameplay. Once again if you own an Xbox so if you want another great console then get the PS3 if you want a cheap piece of plastic with tons of mini games and repetitive nintendo games get a wii.

he said he was interested in the wii. it doesn't run off of peanut butter, kittens, and spoons, obviously there's some tech in there for him to enjoy.[QUOTE="Garfield360UK"]Cheers, I think I may go with the Playstation 3 as it has more of the games I am looking for (I like my racing and sports games, as well as fps titles with a good story, but, I am also willing to try other titles as well).

Exactly what i mean i own both a Wii and a PS3 and i play my ps3 alot more, the Wii has no games that interest me...
Go with the PS3 if you have the money its well worth it, also just wait. In time the PS3 will get more exclusives. Uncharted only uses 30% of PS3's power and its a great looking game. Heres a list of great exclusives the PS3 will get
MGS 4
Killzone 2
Well, as much as I think that the PS3 is vastly superior to the 360, the games are very similar on the system. If you have one of the more advanced, computer-like powerhouses (360, PS3, or even a PC) then you'd probably be better of with the Wii because it is a completely new thing, unlike more of the same. I'd say that you'd probably maximize your use of both systems if you had a PS3 or 360 and a Wii. Unless you want the killer PS3 exclusives that are either already out or coming out like Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Killzone 2, Home, LittleBigPlanet, Haze, Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance: Fall of Man 2, Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear Solid 4....etc.
it also depends on how much you want to spend. If you don't have a lot of money, I wouldn't get another system that is even slightly similar to the 360. But if you have tons, why not all 3?
in the end, it comes down to what you think you will most enjoy, and for the longest period of time.
PS360 combo is seriously SUCH a waste. :|
The Wii is awesome, it really is.
And Smash Bros. may be a fighting game, but it's so different then any other fighting game that it's actually much more.
I personally hate racing and fighting games, but Smash Bros.and Smash Bros. Melee both made me very happy.
hmmm, did you ever consider ditching the 360 and getting the other two? FromTheAshes93
I don't think I will do that sorry, I used to trade loads but regret it now, there are still xbox 360 games I want to play as well as Playstation titles. Thanks for the suggstion though.
With Super Smash Brothers I just feel it won't be my type of game, it looks far too fast paced from the video's I have seen of the game.
If you are stuck between which of the secondary/lesser machines to go for, I'd go for the Wii
The decent games on PS3 are the multiplats. At least the Wii is different - it adds a new dimension to gaming
Id go with a Wii if you're looking for a secondary console. With the Wii as a secondary you'll have access to all the first party titles you love, and (assuming you have no interest in 3rd party titles) can play 3rd party titles on the 360 that are more to your liking.
If you go with a PS3 then you're going to mostly have to pick between 2 versions of the same game.
This's the worst place to ask that.-wii60-
still not gonna stop people here. after all, every one of these threads is secretly one big flamebait thread
Why buy a PS3 over an Xbox 360 or Wii?
Posted on November 28th, 2007 at 07:09 EDTIt might not be the most popular-or smartest, for that matter-thing to say around these parts: But why would anyone buy a PlayStation 3 over a Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii right now? Before you light your torches, pick up your rope and pitchforks to burn me at the stake; hear me out. It's been a little over a year since the PlayStation 3 launched here in North America, and there has yet to be a so-called "killer application" for the title.
I hear you screaming out all of the "big" exclusive titles that have came out since the system launched last November: Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Yet, the problem with these games are not grounded in whether or not they're solid titles, but in the fact that they only validate the purchase of a PlayStation 3 to a small, niche element of the gaming community that buys every console released.
That small, niche element is folks like you and I, who come here to read up on all the latest happenings in the gaming world because it is an extreme passion of ours. But to the people that, sadly, at the end of the day sway whether or not a console is a success or not-mom and dad-there is not that "one game" out yet that gets their child to beg them for hours on end to pick up that PS3. You can argue until you are blue in the face that any of the aforementioned games are system sellers, but one look at the NPD hardware and software numbers will tell you otherwise. They will tell you that these are solid, complimentary games; games that come out to further enrich your gaming experience on a console rather than define it.
Imagine an Xbox 360 without Gears of War, Halo 3 or Mass Effect, or a Nintendo Wii without Super Mario Galaxy, Wii Sports or the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Sure, they would still have plenty of great software on their respective systems, (just like the PS3 does) but not having those amazing, blockbuster titles means that the supplementary titles are often missed out on because they don't generate a wide-spread impetus to purchase the system.
Sony has taken some positive steps to make the PS3 more attractive by slashing the baseline price down to a much more affordable $399 price tag here in the States, but it is not enough until they or their third-party partners publish a game that has that "Halo" or "Wii Sports" like buzz around it. Sadly, that kind of game doesn't appear to be coming out in 2007, but 2008 might be the year where Sony finally breaks out and shows why all of us purchased launch units.
However, because Sony and their third-party partners have taken so long to pump out blockbuster titles, it stands to reason that it might be a matter of too little, too late for Sony. According to hardware sales tracker VG Chartz, the Xbox 360 currently has more than a 2 to 1 advantage in terms of user-base size when compared to the PS3. What does this mean to PS3 owners if this advantage continues? It means that it's much less likely that third-party publishers will release titles exclusively for the PS3 (which is already a shrinking practice) or choose it as the lead platform, considering that the 360 has the bigger install-base.
Sadly, it's already happening. Think about the ...
