I'm getting a console to replace my PC, because it's time to update it and I desided to buy a

high performance console instead. While I was a PC gamer, I used a PC game pad. I played

Call of duty with it, and it is impossible to aim with PC game pads mapped to mouse movement.

I am having horrible visions of playing an Xbox 360 or PS3 with a controller like the Rumble

pad 2, where it is not possible to play an FPS. Are there aiming issues with the Xbox 360 or PS3?

If so, which console is better for that?

The best choice is for you to actually try or hold the controllers and see which one feels better to you. Personally, the XBOX 360 controller feels awkward, and the button placement is way off. Where as on the PS3 controller the only thing off is the back trigger buttons. However, SONY has used almost identical controls for the PS3, PS2, and PS1. So it's been tried and true for over a decade. I've played Call of Duty 4 on both, and the PS3 just feels way better, and more responsive.

The Sixaxis is rarely used but it's better than not having it I suppose.

I own a PS3 and the controller is just fine, and the 360 one is great too.

But let me tell you, when it comes down to it, you really dont notice it.

When you are playing your game you really dont care about the controller-- unless it's of course too big or too small for your hands.

But, with all this talk about people talking about button placement and trigger feel--it's just over-scrutinizing minor things.

Here are some facts though:

360 d-pad sucks, but it's analog sticks are better than the ps3's.

the ps3 has a great d-pad but the analog sticks are a little more slippery than the 360's.

Everything else either doesn't really matter because you don't notice it when it matters the most (when you are playing) or it's all your personal opinion.

Both controllers are damn responsive and are built state-of-the-art.

I should also add that the 360 requires batteries while you simply charge the ps3 controller via the provided usb cable

Just about the only people that feel like you are those who've used the dualshock for the past 10 years and confuse familiarity with comfortability. The majority prefer just about everything about the 360 controller save for the inaccurate Dpad(which isn't used much in games anymore).

The PS3 controller has been little modified since the PS1 because why fix something that's not broken. Also you're right about them stealing it from Nintendo. The PS1 controller is based off of the SNES controller, which in turn was based off the original NES controller. Also, the XBOX controller is based of the SEGA DreamCast controller. Controller, controller, controller...

As a fun fact, when Nintendo first introduced the D-Pad, they had it patented. So all D-Pads now differ slightly from the original + D-Pad.

Not at all, I'm just pointing out that your opinion is in the minority. Games have changed in the 10 years the dualshock design has been out. When it came out nearly every game used and was designed around using the Dpad. Now the majority of the game used the left analog stick. The same design can't be the "best" for both scenarios. If the position of the left analog currently is best, why wasn't the dapd located there when the left analog didn't exist? Games changed and the dualshock has failed to change along with them.

Your right games have changed. And now they use BOTH Left and Right Analog Sticks. In games like COD4, there are both used in movement, (left stick to strafe, right to turn). I think it would be odd to switch the Analog sticks with where the D-Pad is, especially since the sticks are right next to each other. The D-Pad was fine with 2-D games (especially the fighting games), but the addition of the "3rd Dimension" in games require you to use BOTH Analog sticks (not just the Left like you mentioned). So now it's not just the Up, Down, Left, Right axes, but also the Forward, Back ones too. Maybe somebody should make a 6 axis controller for the new Generation, they could call it SIXAXIS...:D

There are "primary" inputs on both sides of the controller.  The primary inputs are placed where your thumb naturally rest.  On the left side it is where the Left analog is on EVERY other controller in existance(due the the FACT that is ergonomically correct).  On the right side for most games the primary input are the face buttons.  The IDEAL placement for games where both sticks are used would be to place the left stick where it is on the 360 controller and swap the right stick and face button placement.  That wouldn't be ideal for the majority of games though.  So a compromise is to have one of the two sticks placed properly vs. the dualshock having zero of two sticks placed properly.  As I stated, you're confusing familiarity with comfortability...if you hadn't ever used a controller it wouldn't be "odd" to swap positions because you wouldn't be used to having the left stick placed improperly.

360:
+Fits the hand better
+Analog layout is better
+Triggers feels more responsive
-D-pad is terrible
-Analog sticks don't feel as responsive to me
Ps3:
+Nice symmeterical button layout
+Better d-pad
+Buttons seem to be more pressure sensitve
-Somewhat awkward to hold compared to 360
-Left analog is in the wrong spot
-Triggers should have the curve shape of the 360

Niether of these are unplayable like some fanboys might make them out to be.

They are the same IMO.. I like the Dual Shock 3 better though as I have almost 15 years of experience with that design. It still jacks me up when I see the blue X on the 360 and it's where the PS3s square is. And the green A that's where the PS3s X is looks like the PS3s triangle,

Au contraire my friend. I was used to the D-Pad on the NES, SNES, Genesis, and the PS1. I never used analog sticks until I got a PS2. So for many years of my life I was used to the directional controls on the left, and the action buttons on the right. When I started using analog sticks on the PS2 I did not find it odd, strange, or awkward. Where as with the XBOX controller, many people thought is was awkward that one of their thumbs were up left, and the other down in the middle of the controller. So when you'd play a game with one stick strafing, and the other turning, it felt odd that your hands were out of equilibrium (and also does not feel natural or comfortable).

dualshock is way better, the anolog stick placement is a lot better, the 360 controller feels weird and uncomfortable.
