Some examples of WRPGs: Fable, Mass Effect, Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Diablo, and etcetera.

Some examples of JRPGs: Final Fantasy, Mario & Luigi, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Paper Mario, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, The World Ends With You, Lost Magic, The Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery, Xenogears, Xenosaga, //..hack, Radiant Silvergun, Odin Sphere, Persona 3: FES, Disgae, White Knight Chronicles/Story, Valkryonicle Chronicles, Baroque, and etcetera.

I personally go for JRPGs because I really the turn-based battles and Nintendo. =P You just can't beat Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Mario & Luigi, Paper Mario, and the like, in my opinion.

I haven't played many WRPGs, so it's hard to judge. I recently played Diablo II, though.

This topic has been done to death.

I prefer JRPGs by far to WRPGs. I really don't understand the appeal of WRPGs. Two of the big ones this gen: Oblivion and Mass Effect, I don't enjoy at all.

Yeah, I know it has, but I couldn't find one and wanted to see what the majority thought.

There's more choices in WRPGs that affect the outcome of the story (Fallout 3 has over 200 endings.), but I prefer the gameplay in JRPGs.

I prefer JRPG before WRPG, just because I find most WRPG preform in a more "Open" system with more focus on combat and all the other stuff where story seems to take a backseat to the rest of them game, where in a JRPG the game is always designed around a story and worked into it.

WRPGs in my opinion shouldn't even be compared to JRPGs. With JRPGs you have no control over the game. Your characters just go along for the ride concequence and option free.

WRPGs are far more complex and that's why I like them so much. You make your own decisions and suffer whatever concequences given from them. You make the story progress your way while you play.

You're in a car, JRPGs are in the backseat while WRPGs are the drivers.

WRPGs. I don't feel comfortable playing games with half-dressed man-children. j/k... kind of.

Do you consider BioShock a WRPG, because the developers said it was?

WRPGs. I actually like JRPGs too, but nothing compare to Baldur's Gate 1 + 2.

I agree. i feel like they sacrifice a lot in WRPGs just to give you free choice of certain things. They focus far too heavily on side quests IMO. A WRPG might give you an 8-10 hour campaign with the rest being side quests, while a JRPG could offer you 40 hours of main and 20+ hours of sidequests, i'd take that JRPG any day of the week. Also a lot of the 'choice' feels tacked on. In Mass Effect your choices in converstation don't even effect the conversation or the story :?

I like my WRPGs more. Usually involve more character creation and more open worlds.

I'd laugh if someone would even try to classify that game as an RPG period.

I'm talking Deus Ex, Witcher, BG2, Fallout, and Mass Effect even. Those WRPGs.

I agree. However, some side quests are better. For example- look at how fable did its. More so like personal goals in a way.

Anyway, you've also got to remember that JRPGs cheat, essentially, with random battles

As for the story aspect, it's mostly undebatable, JRPGs win everytime. A great story in a WRPG is really a average jrpg story

And there you have one game that is not an RPG, and the other who is very light on RPG elements.

I like JRPGs more than WRPGs. I'm currently playing The Witcher and it's okay so far. I'll have to wait and see if it gets better.

WRPGs, they usually make more sense in story and gameplay.

Plus CRPGs like Diablo and Fallout (1,2) fall under the WRPG genre.

Not to mention, WRPGs usually have the game vary depending on how you play it.
