Pointless fanservice, half-hearted games put out just to cash in, crap sold to an ignorant market...
Which developer is the most guilty of these sins?
And who is the least guilty?

Square Enix is the only one I can think that ticks all those requirements.Pointless fanservice, half-hearted games put out just to cash in, crap sold to an ignorant market...

For companies, all are guilty of it in one form or another. However, as for a developer...right now I'd say Capcom with the versus. coming out so quickly after the game was released, you know that they withheld it from the final version.
Square Enix or Nintendo
SE: Stop releasing crap! Instead of JUST having a big budget, how about throwing a good team behind the games? In other words, continue the Chrono series...
Nintendo: We're done with Mario. Yes, even if he makes appearances with Sonic. Please stop falling on the side of casual gaming and return to your 16-bit golden era (as far as quality of game goes).
The last Mario game is AAA rated and got Game of the Year on multiple sites. Are you seriously saying that isn't good enough? I think real Nintendo fans would be up in arms if Nintendo announced, "you know what, Mario, Zelda, Samus Aran, Kirby, Starfox, etc... ehh, these characters are dead to us. We will never ever make another game in any of these series ever again." That would be like PS1/PS2 era Sony getting up and saying, "You know what... Final Fantasy, Tekken, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Ratchet and Clank... these games are dead. Sony no longer supports or will allow games that shot the Playstation brand to popularity to be made for our system. We're doing this to reach out to our real fans... our core base." I don't see anything wrong with "selling out" until you start making bad games. The last Zelda, Metroid and Mario games are AAA on metacritic. Some of you guys seem to think that sequel = sellout... yet oddly you'll rush to buy Resident Evil 5: RE4 Co-op Edition or Call of Duty 23 without thinking twice. As far as Square... whats so bad about letting kids who weren't even born when some of their games came play them? They still make new games that get pretty good reviews. If games are art or at least a respected medium, I think we should treat them the same way. Nobody runs around saying that nobody should ever play Mozart, Miles Davis or any music made before the current generation of artist. Nobody is like, "I can buy the Wizard of Oz at a bookstore?!?!? We need to burn all books made before 2001!!!" Nobody is like, "if you can't find an original reel for Casablanca, you shouldn't watch it. Universal put it out on DVD???!?!?? They should be executed."Square Enix or Nintendo

Yeah I'm going with Nintendo. I still like the Wii but not for the same reasons i did the N64 and so. There just bleh, not aiming at me as there target audience anymore, sold out and went a different route.
Hmm, that's not a leading question, since Nintendo is guilty of those things for Mario, Zelda etc.. But so are most companies. Some of the biggest fanservice games are in the FF and Disgaea series, but that doesn't make them bad games. Far service sells.
Nintendo is forced to sell out, it's not like they had a choice on that matter. Rockstar sold out though, especially with that lazy PC port.hiphops_savior
? They didn't even have to do the PC port, console versions sold enough to recoup whatever GTA5 costs, let alone GTA4.
They did it because PC fans wanted the game. It would also give them a little cash on the side but nowhere near console sales.
Again, Nintendo had to choose whether to appeal to the mainstream or go bankrupt. So far, judging by the opinions of the so-called "hardcore" gamers, I think they rather see Nintendo go bankrupt.hiphops_savior
That's the feeling I get from SW. No wonder most of the sheep have been scared away.

Going the other direction doesn't bother me, but when it causes games I hold dear to feel simple just to broaden its base is when I call foul. It is no longer the game I like anymore.

That's still no excuse for badly optimizing the game. GTA started on the PC platform, and the GTA IV port is a slap in the face for PC gamers. This is coming from someone who's been playing GTA on the PC since GTA III.[QUOTE="hiphops_savior"]Again, Nintendo had to choose whether to appeal to the mainstream or go bankrupt. Quality games take time to develop, and there are such thing as Quality games that isn't from Nintendo. No More Heroes, Madworld and Okami are some games that come to mind. Niche games like Zack and Wiki, De Blob, Boom Blox, House of the Dead Overkill, and Deadly Creatures are some examples.

Please , how is it slap in the face of pc gamers ?? they made lots of minor tweaks for the pc version (like mod support, video editor etc and my personal favorite independence FM) , the made it so that the game runs very nicely with kb + m and you also have the option of switching to the controller on the fly and so on. And withing one month after the release of the game they release two patches with the I run the game at almost max settings. to me it looks they did a pretty good jobSquare Enixis amuch larger company that can produce more today then a few years ago. With the PSOne era it didn't take them long to create a quality game as it does today. Plus the industrywas much easier to break into. Not to mention their staffing was much smaller and more exclusive. Today they have several other developing staffs who are fresh and young. Not to mention their music department has grown significantly with a new lead composer. The Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts staff are considered the best at the company. One is make Final Fantasy XIII and the other is making Versus XIII. The cost and length of the development ismore then what was before. Both games are considered to be promising.
Then you have the development staff of games like Last Remnant, Dirge of Cerberus, etc, etc. And all I have to say is, people have to start somewhere. The handheld market for SE has been received well by gamers with Dissidia, Crisis Core, Final Fantasy III, and Final Fantasy IV. Plus there was a re-release of Chrono Trigger. They have twoPS3(one coming to the 360)games in the mix which are quite expensive. They also have a MMORPG(PC/Xbox 360)which they're hoping is going to be a huge flagship franchise. Dragon Quest X is heading to the Wii. Plus there's some ambitious DS and PSP games being developed by them.
Square Enix is the same company to me anyway. If you want to talk about games that didn't rate high we can look at the Parasite Eve franchise, and the Masashi series. Don't forget about the notorious ratingsSaGa has received in the past; those games can't catch a break. I'll admit that they've taken a chance on other franchises outside the realms of DQ, FF, and KH in the past as oppose to today. With that said, Last Remnant being the only game this generation released and developed by SE that was a new franchise.

I am not the biggest Nintendo fan, but I have to completely agree with your post.
I would also add/ask, if "fan service" is selling out, what is not selling out? Fan disservice?
Also, the irony in the ignorance and arroganceof statements by people whoclaim that they can read other people's minds, and know that peoplebought something (or several copies of something) out of "ignorance".
On a side note, Casablanca is now available on Blu-Ray!
So far, judging by the opinions of the so-called "hardcore" gamers, I think they rather see Nintendo go bankrupt.hiphops_saviorThat's because they're scared of Nintendo. They didn't support the Gamecube so they forced Nintendo to go elsewhere thinking they couldn't. Well Nintendo did, and successfully, so "hardcore" gamers are just now realizing they're not needed. This scares them. Like a young boy realizing he only gets playing time because the coach wants to get everyone some minutes.
I don't see how anyone could say Nintendo sold out, They are pretty much doing what they always have.
I'd say Vavle has probably sold out the least. They've always done what they wanted and now they have an entire platform in which they have the final word.Steam is awesome.
