I'm curious to know. I want to see what matters more, the money put into a game or the developer's talents. Didn't Shenmue have a real high production value, like 50 million dollars?

I dunno about that Too Human amount being correct. I went to the guy's referrence for it, and there was nothing there about how much the game cost

Shenmue was for it's time but there probably have been games with larger budgets since then. C&C 3 must have had a very large budget considering the actors it features, the expense of the engine and the FMV effects.

Dang. That's a lot then. I don't know how one could ever recoup those kinds of up front costs.

Don't get me wonrg I loved the game but you would think they could have hired some decent voice actors for $70 million :)

That was up to SEGA of America/Europe, not Japan though.

But for 70 million, they could have done a lot better with the game on more things than just the voice acting.

A lot of money was wasted on trivial things, I'm sure.

And the PS1. The only game that I know of thats been in development longer is DNF, and I'm pretty sure that its a running joke. I think because of allthe exclusivity agreementsand publishers that Too Human has had (Nintendo, MGS, and whoever was going topublish the PS1 version) that Sillicon Knightsand MSwill actually profit from it (assuming it lives upto hype/sells) because most of the time its been someone else footing the bill.

:|

I wish I didnt have to explain this so much

it was pretty much done on the PS1, but then nintendo had them cancel it

barely ANY work was done on a GC version, then development picked back up for the 360 back in 05

so no, not a 10 year dev cycle
