The genre for me would be the JRPG.Throughoutthis generation of consoles I have seen too few JRPG's that have caught my attention. More RPG's where released for the handhelds than both the 360 and PS3 combined. I begin to ask the question...Is this thebeginning of the end of well crafted JRPG's. The story for me is the most important part of any RPG. If I don't care about the characters in the story, the battle system better bekiller orI'll have a hard time completing it. My most memorable character this gen is Kaim fromLOST ODYSSEY. The game was decent with a timed button press battle system. I just wish that some of the stories from Kaim's past were cut scenes and not just a good read. I thought we would have seen a sequel by now.

The battle systemof these games is where I feel the genrenevergrew, FFXII and Kingdom Heartswere steps in the right direction, a mix of the traditional withsomething new. Ididn't care for the system used in FFXIII and the story made me save aF U for a Le'Cie if I everran intoone. The Tales game haven't changed much eithersince the days of the gamecube. These are justexamples, I'm not hating on

I see the PS3 now has a some what healthy line of JRPG's coming but just how many will make the attempt to create some thing that truly stands out.

Sports, I mean how many times have I played the same game with the same rules? I think more sports games should add new ideas, double jumping in Madden would completely change how the game is played.

Platformer. First of all there isn't enough of them, second of all I'm tired of all these linear, no exploration, easy 3d platformers. We need another Banjo Tooie, too bad Rare sucks now so we need another franchise that's like Banjo Tooie.

Double jump has no place in any game trying to replicate the concept of gravity, especially sports sims my man

Racing games for sure. They just don't seem to be as fun as the old skool racers that I started out playing. Most devs have failed to bring some good arcade style racing, with the excpeption of a few.

You mean Battlefield clone. There isn't any COD clones that actually play like COD unless it's COD

I wanna see more sports games that make up their own sport instead of going with a real one. Real-life limitations suck, I wanna joust by snowboarding on a shark.

I wish Survival Horror existed again outside a scant selection of games.

Shooters, both in terms of the dearth of creativity and the genre's obscession with cramming a ~6 hour campaign and robust multiplayer onto the same disc. RPGs aren't far behind, though.

RPG, the vast majority of them still ignore the hell out of gameplay. FPS is pretty bad about it too...

I think platforming has really sucked all around for some time basically you can buy a nintendo game, ratchet and clank, uncharted, or it will suck, even platforming elements in other games seem to be very painful.

I agree with JRPG's, they seem to have lost their way somewhere. Many games, but mostly RPG's, seem to think 30 hours of mini-quests (Usually fetch/kill quests) are a substitute for gameplay and add to the longevity of the game. Star Ocean: The Last Hope for example. It's like they're trying to MMO them up more, only these kind of quests in MMORPG's are getting really old too. Hrm, I suppose in that regard, maybe it's the MMORPG that really needs shaking up the most. We've had nothing but WoW clones.
